» jerrib - What a lovely garden party
Hope you will invite me back next June.Your digital camera and your quick eye sure provide some beautiful "flora" favorites. I love your garden! And that weeping cherry is to die for! Such a beautiful place, Naomi.
The weather was right, the food was good and the garden is absolutely spectacular. I did enjoy seeing the pots you planted earlier.
How doo you have time to do anything else? But write, of course.
Your column is a jewel of a garden full of pretty and informational prose.
Lovely tour!

» Renie_Burghardt - Garden Party!
Wow, Naomi, you sure know how to throw a garden party!Your roses are absolutely gorgeous, so is everything else. I love the columbines. With all those delectable flowers, no wonder you have a profusion of guests. A true butterfly and hummingbird haven!
Now that I'm here, I don't think I want to leave, Naomi. You may be stuck with a permanent guest!
That digital camera does a superb job of taking pictures. Of course, having those gorgeous objects to take pictures of, helps.
Lovely garden party, Naomi. The best one I've ever been to. Thank you for sharing your lovely garden with us.

» Naomi_Mathews - Hi, Jerri! And thanks for attending...
My early summer garden party wouldn't be complete without my wonderful guests and readers! Thank you for visiting, and many thanks for your kind comments, too!I do love my flowers, Jerri -- AND my wild critter visitors as well. Actually, since I have ALL perennials -- finally -- all of the garden areas almost take care of themselves. This year has been the best in that respect! I've done very little other than enjoy watching the trees and flowers come back to life and bloom for me once again.
My digital camera is one of the best investments I've made! (I still have a lot to learn on it, but am getting better!) Not only for my use here on the Suite, but for many other things as well. I have so many more wonderful photos of my roses, azaleas, wisteria, flowering almond, pink dogwood, and that weeping cherry tree you love! I MUST get busy and get my Suite Home Page up and running, and I can place a lot of photos there for all to enjoy.
Glad you enjoyed the food, and the weather certainly was cooperative for a change! It's been a cool one this spring. But come mid-June and later, the hot summer weather we have here is bound to come.
You don't need to wait until next June to come back, ya know! My little "haven" is always open and all are welcome to return any time. Hot coffee and tea are always readily available -- and that garden swing is soooooo comfy! Bring a good novel to read and sit a spell, Jerri. (-;

» Naomi_Mathews - Renie! Glad to see your smiling face!
Thank you so much for coming to my garden party! And, thank you also for your lovely comments. I appreciate them very much.I wouldn't mind at all if you became a permanent guest, Renie! But you'd have to promise to bring all of the lovely things with you that you enjoy there in your Ozark Hideaway! (-;
Yes, the digital camera is the only way to go in this "electronic age" we live in. I've saved many, many dollars in film and developing costs, and do get far better photos (most of the time!).
Come back to visit again, Renie. I always enjoy your visits and your comments add much to my discussions. Take care now!

» terri_in_pa - What a Spread! :)
A delectable spread for all your butters and hummers!! Gorgeous! They certainly have their choices for breakfast, lunch and dinner.Your yard and pictures are beautiful! Nothing like a digital camera to take some fablulous pics.
Here in my yard, we too are having a party of sorts... Flowers seem to be lasting longer, there have been some cooler spells and lots of rain. My Phlox are still in bloom, as are many of my spring flowers. The butters are everywhere, tiger swallowtails, black swallowtails, even the little blues!! Only have one Hummer, but am glad i have him!
I have a nest of nuthatch birds, who have already raised one brood, and probably working on the second group.. Pilated woodpeckers are having a feast with rotted fallen trees in the woods, and their nest is nearby.
I even planted some dill, fennel and a few other herbs among my salvia and alyssum...Hoping that ill be getting young ones to party here as well!

» Naomi_Mathews - Hi Terri! What fun you must be having!
Your butters and hummers have a bunch of delicacies to choose from! I'd give anything to see just ONE hummer this year -- but maybe later. My hubby saw a MONARCH one day this week! He was flying toward our neighbor's yard, so maybe he'll come back again. How wonderful for you to have all those butters and your faithful hummer! Makes all of the hard parts of gardening worth it, right? And your wild birds sound abundant too. We were so excited when our five little feathered babies hatched! I suppose it won't be long until they leave their nest and take to the air. I'm hoping to get a better pic before they take off!
I planted fennel last year and it came up this spring and is really looking great (but no little caterpillars feasting on it yet!) It's right next to one of my butterfly bushes and one or two lupines. I'll go check it out again today.
Thanks for your kind comments, Terri. I always appreciate them! And yes! I love my digital camera, especially for those spur of the moment pics. Its a lot of fun, and if you get bad pics, it only takes a moment to "delete" them! That's the best part, right?
Do you think you'll have a really hot summer this year or another drought where you live, Terri? The weather has been strange all around the country this spring. I think it's to be in the mid-70s to 80 deg. range here today. WOW! It's been in the mid-60s for weeks!
Thanks for coming to my party! It's always great seeing you here. And remember, my garden gate is always open!

» Naomi_Mathews - Just saw a lovely ....
Swallowtail butterfly! He/she was yellow and black -- gorgeous colors. I was taking a quick coffee/cookie break out on the deck with my hubby, and here came that beautiful butterfly. I was so excited! It flitted around the flowers for a while then fluttered on across the back fence. The sun has been out today and it's been much warmer with NO WIND! Maybe they can fly again now!
Do share any of your butterfly or hummer sightings at our "garden party!" I'm hoping to get a good photo of one -- if so, will be sure and post it!

» terri_in_pa - A Monarch?? Wow!!
I havent seen them yet, but here its early i think. My ascelpsis isnt in flower yet, i dont see them till that plant is in flower.Weather here generally has been cooler then usual, and the storms! WOW!! they have been more violent then normal, lots of hail storms, heavy thunder and lightening. Great rain.. ![]()
One storm washed away both entrances to my driveway, gravel, underlayment and all.. we lost 3 feet of driveway width in the one entrance and the other,, well lets just say a good part of the driveway is now in the woods!!
My butters seem to be weathering this crazy weather here quite well..My hummer sensed the storm was coming and stayed at one of the feeders, DH got worried and made sure he left the feeder to get back to his nest.. he opened the front door and the hummer flew off, this was after his watching this little guy for awhile just protecting his feeder..
Just would like some stability to this weather.. like around 75 degrees would be nice!!
We have had a couple of hot hot days of 90 degree weather but it doesnt last long.. the general temps are in the 70s lately.. but who knows?? a week ago i was still wearing sweatpants, it wasnt higher then 65, cool and damp...
