Hope This Works! <img SRC="http://www.suite101.com/files/topics/470..."align=right>-- posted by Renie_Burghardt » Renie_Burghardt - Hi Naomi! Didn't we just "talk" a little earlier today? He He He. Anyway, here I am again. As you can see, I'm not the best photographer, but I have one of the yellow swallowtails here for you, above. The sulphurs just don't show up well, since they are smaller. Oh well...at least I got this one. Hope you enjoy it, and take a little break, now and then. Until later...Renie -- posted by Renie_Burghardt » Naomi_Mathews - What a gorgeous "Swallowtail" Renie... That is a wonderful shot of a swallowtail butterfly, Renie! Thank you so much for sharing your beautifuly "flying flower" with me and my readers. Looks like it has a great field of flowers to choose from for nectar. How grand those Swallowtails are, Renie! I have yet to see my first one of this season, but haven't given up hope as it just isn't warm enough here yet. Very cool again today, overcast and a bit of rain and wind. Definitely not butterfly weather -- they need sunshine! (And so do I!) Yes, Renie -- it's been a busy time for me of late, but I do so love keeping up with things out here at the Suite. It's especially great that you took the time and effort to post your lovely Swallowtail here in my discussion thread. I really appreciate it! I'll try to take some "rest breaks" real soon! THis has been one hungry hummer, as he is here all the time!On Wed, i saw my first tiger swallowtail of the season. I was driving to work when he hit my windshield, he died... Great Picture, Renie! Love looking a pics of butters!! No two pics ever really look the same!! What a meadow you have there! very nice! -- posted by terri_in_pa » Renie_Burghardt - Thanks Thanks, Naomi and Terri! Actually, I don't have a good camera. It's just a plain old 35 mm, no special lens with it. So my pictures aren't the greatest, but I try.Terri, I hate to hit butters. It saddens me when they fly into the vehicle. By the way, you take gorgeous photos. You must have a special lens on your camera. You have a gorgeous garden! I'm glad you enjoyed my butterfly photo! -- posted by Renie_Burghardt » jerrib - I came back for another visit and to see the photo of the butterfly. Have not seen any around. As a matter of fact, have not seen but white ones lately. Hope more varieties will flock by when the flowers start blooming more.Do come visit, Naomi, and read about our wine and wineries in WA state. -- posted by jerrib » Naomi_Mathews - Thanks for the return visit, Jerri... Always glad to see you here in my butterfly haven!I'm glad you're seeing some of the white butterflies, Jerri -- I've not seen ANY butterflies recently. This has been a strange year weather-wise around here. And with the strong winds we've had here the past few days I doubt any butterfly could fly against it! I just planted my "Potpourri" pots for butterflies over the weekend. I'm sure the Lantanas I planted in 3 of the pots will attract some of the Swallowtails, and hopefully -- Monarchs! The ones I planted already have small blossoms on each plant. I'll keep an eagle eye out for butterflies if/when the wind settles down. I look forward to reading your latest article soon, Jerri. They're always so informative, well researched, and beautifully written. I've not been able to be here at the Suite very much the past few days, but will be playing "catch-up" today! Thanks again for the visit, Jerri -- it was very welcome this morning. Keep watching for those flying flowers over there! -- posted by Naomi_Mathews » CarolWallace - Swallowtail siting in Northeast PA Saw my first Tiger Swallowtail yesterday! And I also saw a small orange one that I'm not familiar with - I'll have to look it up. And I need to remember to watch the grass - this is the only time of the year that I see them, but very tiny little blue butterflies are somtimes hovering near the ground in spring.-- posted by CarolWallace » Naomi_Mathews - Congrats on seeing Tiger Swallowtail... Carol, that's wonderful! I have yet to see one here this spring. After today's high winds ALL day long, they may never find their way here!Do you think those little blue ones near the ground could be in the "Blues" family of butterflies? Those might be "Spring Azures" -- a sweet little species in the "Blues" family. There are also "Silvery" Blues that like lupine. OR, they could be a beautiful "Eastern Tailed Blue." They like vetches, alfalfa, and clovers. According to my resource map, they are found in your area. It would be interesting to know what your small orange one was. If you can identify that one, do let us know! Thanks for visiting, Carol. Always nice to see you in my butterfly garden! -- posted by Naomi_Mathews « Previous 1 2 3 Next » Please follow the guidelines set forth in the Suite101 Posting Etiquette when adding to the discussion. |
