» Ixia - Photo

There are a few things you could do.
Firstly, do you know anyone who could scan it for you and then send it as an attachment via email?

Secondly, if you would like to post me a copy of your photo, if I can't recognise it, then I could scan it for you and put it in the net for identification.

I'll see what I have amongst my photos as to what I have in the way of Amaryllids.

» Andrew1 - Hippeastrum

Hi David

By the description of the seed it sounds like you've got a Hippeastrum.

In the USA they often still refer to them as Amaryllis even though they are technically Hippeastrum.

There are only two Amaryllis, both endemic to South Africa.

Regards Andrew

» CourtenayPage - amaryllis bulbs

I was given an amaryllis last Christmas which was just lovely, but when the flower died, I was advised to cut the stalk back, place the bulb in a paper bag and put it in the freezer until fall. No one, however, has told me what to do to make it bloom again. Do I need to "thaw" it out first? Should that be done slowly in the refrigerator before I plant it? I'd love to have it bloom again for this Christmas. Anyone out there know what I should do? Thanks in advance!

Firstly, you should have put it into the Fridge, not the freezer.
Take it out and let it thaw out and put it in the crisper tray of the fridge.
Keep your eye on it every few days and when (if) you see new growth starting, pot it up.
Otherwise if it is the growing period now, thaw it out, pot it up, water and then wait and see if it is going to grow.
Good luck

That's great news!
Now, keep it moist and don't let it dry out.
Later, when it shows signs of dying down, it is probably entering its dormant period so you will have to cut down on watering.
Good luck, it will exciting to see a flower.

» amyfields - What to do with an Amyrillis?

I received an amyrillis bulb kit before Christmas, and following the instructions, got it to grow and bloom. Now that the flowers have died, do I need to cut the stalk, or both the stalk and leaves? If I leave it in it's pot, will it bloom again next year? How do I keep it viable?
Would appreciate some advice from experienced growers, please.

Leave some of the stalk on as this feeds the bulb and let it go dormant and cut down on watering.
At the beginning of your next growing season, repot it into a larger pot. They are gross feeders so give it some food during the growing season. The bulb might or might not flower for you next season but should the following year.
