- Buffy fanfic -- good/bad
I guess the main problem with fiction is what is good and what is bad? 2+2 is a pretty simple problem--4 is the right answer and any other answer is wrong. But with stories there is no ultimate template to place over a story to decide if it is right or wrong, good or bad.
I've been writing stories for ten years now, and when I look over the first things I wrote I think they are horrible and cliched. But at the time of writing I was proud of them, thought they were good stories--and most importantly I enjoyed writing them. No matter if they were good or bad, it was worth writing because I enjoyed the process.
So, in the end for me, I find it is more important to write (as long as you enjoy writing)then worry if a story is good or bad. And if I come across a story I don't like, I put it down, and spend my time finding something more interesting to read, rather then complaining about how crappy the original story was.
I've read some Buffy fanfic I like, and some I don't like--but I'm really ineterested in coming across some stories by these fanfic authors who have begun creating their own fictional universes, and will hopefully get published one day.
