» Marella - Sorry, gotta go with Fox on this one

I don't see why fandom has to equate with copyright infringement. Can't fan sites operate without utilizing copyrighted material? This "blackout day" sounds to me like people whining that they're not being allowed to steal. I don't get it. Fans ARE a creative lot; surely there's a way to have websites devoted to shows they love and NOT take what belongs to others.

OK, so I'll probably get whopped on this one, but as the owner of some copyrights myself, this is one issue where I can't agree with fandom.

» Car - Not from me...

No whooping from me.

As for X-Files and Buffy, they are but two in many examples. It's not new. I was on a StarTrek MUSE (TOS) where they were threatened by Paramount that there might be copyright infringement on their website. This has to be about 8-9 years ago now. But you know what... nothing really happened because the law isn't exact yet. I've been on many other Trek-based worlds and have yet to hear of another one that even got contacted by Paramount.

What folks who do continue to use this material are accepting is the risk that if and when the law does get passed they will either have to take down their site, pay a fine, or both.

Personally, I've just chosen to not deal with it on most of my sites and stay away from copyright material as much as possible.
