» CroneofElderfen - Is the fan reaction to Wesley really about him, or about Doyle?

How much of the fan dislike of Wesley is based on the character himself (both in his original run as the replacement Watcher on BtVS and his current run on "Angel") and how much is in defense of the popular and martyred Doyle? What do you think?

I DEFINITELY think a lot of the argument about Wesley is due to his rapid introduction following Doyle's death. It came so quickly after "Hero," I don't think the fans had enough time to recover from the loss of their demon-lover. smile

But I love Wesley. I really do. I loved Doyle, too, but I have absolutely NOTHING against Wesley. I support his character, and hope he has a long, happy run on "Angel!" And as an avid Cordy/Wesley shipper from their days on "BtVS," I'm happy as a clam!

» Car - Deeping character...

I think Wesley, as in so many other of the Buffy characters, has definitely deepened with the reintroduction.

I must admit not particularly being keen about Wesley when he first appeared. I mean, we finally got Giles to break down and see a non-"stuff-English-guy" side to him and suddenly another one appears.

But he's definitely managed to gain a much deeper personality that's unique to him with his return on Angel. Kinda reminds me of Spike... ;)

» GeekGirl - Wesley

I liked Doyle. He was funny, cute, his chemistry with Cordelia was excellent, and he was a friend type. The show was good when he was on, but it always felt as if something was missing. The something that makes btvs a better show. The sense of family that the slayerettes have. When Wesley came to town the series gelled. Finally I realized what was missing and there it was. The group became a family. The chemistry between Angel (big brother and mentor), Cordelia (showy little sister) and Wesley (screw up middle child) came to light and has made the show better.

I have no doubt that if and ever (fingers crossed) Doyle comes back that he will fit back in as his role of Angels' best friend and Cordelias' suitor. I really do not see Wesley as a possible love interest for Cordie...that ship has sailed and it sunk. He is now in an older brother role, and I like it. I still have hope that once btvs finishes its run that Willow will come to stay in L.A. and become an integral part of Angel Investigations that way Willow and Wesley can be put together.

The article was interesting and I enjoyed reading it. I was sorry i missed out emailing the author my comments, but it was an interesting read.

» Greyangel - Wes for sure!

I really enjoy both Doyle and Wesley as characters on Angel, but I must say they aren't comparable, nor could one ever replace the other. They have completely different positions in the show, as has been pointed out, where Doyle was more of a best friend to Angel and a love interest for Cordelia, whereas Wesley is more of a family member. He and Angel are like brothers to me, and he and Cordelia with their immature fighting sessions seem to be the close, younger brother and sister duo.

I would love for Doyle to come back, but I really would like to ask Wesley bashers to stop. Driving Wesley off the show won't bring Doyle back, it'll only make Wesley fans upset, just like you are about Doyle. Don't hate Wesley because of Doyle's departure, coz he was in no way responsible, nor was Alexis, and it's really not fair on him either.
