Favorite Springsteen Song

» jerseygirl - So what's the Boss's best? He's written so many terrific songs; Bruce should surely be named the poet laurate of the United States! But if I had to name one, I'd have to say "Thunder Road." The first time I heard it, I wept...it was like someone could look inside my soul, to the fears I had about growing old, getting scared, being alone...and then taught me to show a little faith. We're all on this road together, so climb in and we'll pull away from all the things that scare us into being someone we're not....tonight we'll be free...My second favorite song is probably "Human Touch." Hell, a little touch up and a little paint goes a long way to hide flaws, and the touch of another's hand may just be enough to help us hold on. After all, we're all riders on this train. Oh, there were a couple songs that I recognized--like "Bobbi Jean" (correct title?) or "Brilliant Disguise"--or even sang along to.But what turned my head in a big way was "Streets of Philadelphia." My heart broke the instant I heard the song. I have a relative in Philadelphia who is HIV+, and the song made me cry like I *never* have in a movie theater. I wanted to slink out a side exit with my big pink nose and bloodshot eyes. I've looked at and listened to Bruce in a completely different light since that song. Powerful stuff!

Check it out. Prove it all night also. I saw him in concert my first time at Red Rocks in Denver area in 1978, I have been hooked ever since, saw him last in Milwaukee Nov.10,1999. Red Rocks was the best of all his concerts i attended.-- posted by flowerpots » Steven_Russell - my favorite choice evolves My favorite changes over the years, as I change. The first one I became familiar with was Spirit in the Night, because of the Manfred Mann cover version. Then 20 year ago, I really liked The River. It had such an ominous melody, for a love song. In the mid-80's I really learned to love Fire. I then discovered Darkness on the Edge of Town, what a great album, with Badlands, Prove it All Night, The Promised Land, all fantastic full-throttle Springsteen tunes of working-class angst. One Step Up, from Tunnel of Love was gripping, in it's straight-forward lament of despair: Woke up this morning the house was cold, We've given each other some hard lessons lately, Later, I discovered the other beautiful tracks on that album, Brilliant Disguise, and All that Heaven Will Allow. I think that album was his last great work. The following Human Touch was a nice song, but the raw energy level seemed somewhat diminished. Bruce was getting older, and more mature, perhaps more comfortable in his world. But I always discover earlier subtle gems, like Atlantic City. And 4th of July, Asbury Park (Sandy) is just gorgeous. And one that Bruce gave away to Southside Johnny, who performed it brilliantly with the Asbury Jukes, The Fever. But for my all-time favorite now, I might have to go way back in his career, to Backstreets, with its symphonic opening piano riff. -- posted by Steven_Russell » Steven_Russell - The Promised Land This one has the most rivetting verse I have ever heard in a song:There's a dark cloud rising from the desert floor Blow away, the dreams that tear you apart, -- posted by Steven_Russell » Kinzler - So what's the Boss's best?
