In response to message posted by PastPanfan:

Hi all!

I too was saddened by the lack of stuff on the net about 'the People'. I was prompted to search after seeing all the retro stuff on the box over the last few months. Dee Dee (my favourite!) has certainly had a lot of exposure (in more ways than one). Variously in 'I Love 1974, 'TV Moments from Hell', 'Lipstick Years', 'Platforms at Xmas' - just about every programme about the seventies that's been done in the last year or so!

I guess if they were a current phenomenon, there would be dozens of sites dedicated to them. Obviously I guess the lack of material on them is the problem here. I was even going to make my own site to rectify the deficiency (even registered a domain for them) but was faced with the fact that I have next to nothing to put on it! Also I was quite young at the time they were famous, and so didn't really have the wherewithall to find out and collect much about them at the time.

My first exposure to them wasn't actually on TOTP, but on what must have been that 'In Concert' special in the early/mid seventies. I think it was on during the Easter holidays? I was mesmerised at the 'pillow dance' routine - luckily I think my dad was too and he stopped my mother who was wanting to switch it off! Seeing the clips of it now - it is provocative even by today's standards.

After that I was hooked even though I was only about 9 or 10 at the time - I credit Louise and Dee Dee with advancing the course of puberty by at least two or three years!

Seeing all the retro clips on TV brought back all these fond memories of them at the height of their fame....

Btw, does anyone know the name of the music for this pillow dance routine - was it written specially for the programme? I suppose it would be too much to ask if anyone know's where one may get a copy of the 'In Concert' recording? Was it on the BBC? (Maybe the BBC is more open about its archives now. I remember as a kid trying to get copies of stuff from my favourite sci fi shows, and the BBC seemed to treat its archives like the Kremlin would state secrets!)

For PastPanFan: Ruth Pearson is now working in a council housing office. Babs went on a round the world yachting tour lately. Lousie Clark is a 'mother and housewife'. Cherry Gillespie is a voiceover artist and runs a gift buying service and Dee Dee is involved with a dance studio and fashion design.

Facts from another show last year on Pans People and what they're doing now.

Keep the interest going!

Regards,

Another Pan Fan!

PS Congratulations to the guy who put together the freeserve site. Well done, better than I would have been able to do...
