I too am amazed at the lack of any useful information on Pan's People. Living with 5 other undergraduates in a condemned building in Manchester UK in the late 60's, Pan's Peoples' appearance was the ONLY thing to brighten the week.

There was a TV program on the BBC looking at 1974 a few days ago that featured an all too brief item on Pan’s People. Like others I was very disappointed not to find anything on this dance group on the web. In fact it took quite an effort just to find this site. Probably like most guys I had my favourite, but they were all fabulous. It was great to see three of them on the TV reminiscing about their time with the group. Would love to know how they are all doing.

I agree, there's remarkably little on Pans People on the Web. I have on video a documentary which came out on TV about 1995 on their story, featuring such mega-stars as Chris Tarrant and John Peel! There were extended interviews with the girls, then in their 40's, which were fascinating. It was tremendously nostalgic.

It would be great if somebody at the Beeb did a full history, they must have the the archive material. The BBC website page on TOTP history hardly refers to them.

I agree. Last night, 31/December/2000 there was a 5 minute feature about Pans People in a program about the 70s. So there are some archives somewhere, also 30 years on they still look great

It seems I'm not alone in having great difficulty finding anything about Pans People, I'm glad to hear that someone (Dandridge) has some archive material. The thing is, would it be possible to get a copy of some of the old videos or pictures?
I'd be willing to consider buying some of it, it would be wonderful to re-kindle memories of my youth when I used to live for Thursday night so that I could watch Pans People on top of the Pops!

If Dandridge or anyone else has any material I could have or buy, please email me at chrisk@supanet.com I'd love to hear from you!

Regards and thanks in advance to anyone who could help with this huge hole in footage from my youth!

Chris

Hi chris, glad 2 hear of your interest in this fab group that changed the face of tv dancing.dont you know whether youve noticed ,but recently there has been some sort of revival on them, theyve popped up quite a bit on tv recently on 70s revival shows.the most popular clip thats shown is of louise & dee dee doing a number called hip hug, taken from the groups in concert tv special(the raunchy 1 where theyre gyrating on cushions wearing hardly nothing!).i do have the full in concert video, pressie from dee dee, very varied routines, showcasing different styles of music & routines, from jazz, lyrical, pop,& a dreaful one where they sing & tap.i also have 3 videos full of totps routines(70-75),starting with 6 girls(andy) ending up with the 5.one of them is a rehersal sequence, with babs going wrong during the routine,& freaking out!,my fav is a stevie wonder routine, very funky & sexy.unfortunatly cant sell or copy them (dee dee will strangle me!)but maybe able 2 help with some piccies-laser copy.my fav is of the group in denimn, lounging suggestivly on bales of straw, taken in 72,when they were @ the height of their fame, laters, dandridge

As I was the one who started this dialog off back in 1999, I feel somewhat guilty as several months ago, someone who read these notes sent me the website of just what we have been whining about.
Here it is

Hello there,

Now then would that 'raunchy' videoyou mention be the one that would have been on an actual TOTP also (Inever knew of any 'in concert' video)..I always remember coming into the sixth form block one day (Fri) after the previous nights TOTP and us all going ga ga over a routine employing strockings and suspenders!!!..much delight for us back then (and sad gits now probably).

There have been several reruns here (live in Australia now)on UKTV TOTPops old reruns with Pans Peoples in. I got several videos from that of Ppeople including an old Two Ronnies with them guesting.

That archive material should be looked into..surely a deal with the fromer troupe members would enable a nostalgic video release ?

PS anyone know what my favourite .Ruth Pearson..is doing these days?

Agree on the scarcity of PPeople stuff ..a shame for this legacy of the 70's
