» Renie_Burghardt - Bainbridge's Awfully Big Adventure Pamela, what a neat review! I really enjoyed it. The story sounds like one I would love, especially since it is set in the 50s! I loved the Publishers Weekly interview, especially her last remark about why she really isn't eccentric! It is so great to read about her successes in later life. Makes another sixty-something writer think that maybe it's not too late to make it. Hehe.A most enjoyable review! Now off I go to explore the rest of the links. Take care. I would love to have the opportunity to meet her some day. Her writing is worthy of emulation, extremely controlled and tight. You would be hard pressed to find a superfluous word. I have been reading about Bainbridge for a long time, and now that I've read this novel, I'm itching to read more. She's become known for her historical fiction, so I think I'll try some of that next. As always, thanks for your insights! -- posted by pamela_saint » dsadams - Bainbridge's Booker Loss Most of us were shocked when Beryl's book, According to Queeney, didn't make it to the shortlist.Something I read recently said that she has set a standard with this book by which all other historical novels will be judged. I really liked your article, I think we should all be able to vote Beryl back onto the Booker short-list. Talk to you soon, -- posted by dsadams » pamela_saint - Re: Bainbridge's Booker Loss In response to message posted by dsadams:Hi Diana, As a new Bainbridge convert, I'd like to see her snag a Booker, too! Perhaps her next book will win, and her name will then be popping up in your column... Thank you for visiting. -- posted by pamela_saint » katrinko - Brainbridge and a hello Hello Pamela,I enjoyed your article on Bainridge (hope I spelled it correctly.) I have to admit, I have not read much contemporary British literature, so I'm very much looking forward to reading more recommendations and insights as well as expanding my British author reading. Thank you for a wonderful column... Hence, it's such a pleasure to be able to read other columns such as yours, so I can at least bookmark titles to read when and if those extra hours miraculously appear! Thank you for dropping by! -- posted by pamela_saint » pamela_saint - Re: Excellent Review In response to message posted by jerrib:Thanks, Jerri. I appreciate your kind comments. -- posted by pamela_saint » pamela_saint - Re: Re: Re: Excellent Review In response to message posted by Ireland:Thanks, Irene. I really enjoyed it--enough so that I've another Bainbridge title on my desk waiting to be read! -- posted by pamela_saint
