» lizajane15 - Marigold sword tail had babie!

Hello my swordtail was darting around my tank and acting funny so i put her in a square baby container last night. When i got up this morning she had gotten out of it but she delivered at least 30 babies if not more in the container. They are all laying at the bottom of it. My question is i have a 2 and a half gallon octagon tank and i would like to know how long i should wait before i transfer them in there intill they get a little bigger. My other sword tail had had 16 babies awhile ago that i found right after she had them and when i moved them to the octagon tank the same day they all died but one.I would appreciate any info someone could give me please.

Generally, in my experience, Swordtails are the worst cannables of the livebearer fishes I have raised.
You might want to keep the fry from the adult fish for about two months, until the fry are bigger than the adult's mouths. But don't be fooled! They can open those jaws pretty wide!
I'd say about two months, feeding the babies 3 times a day with Dried Bloodworms and Growth Flakes. These are very easy to find at your local petstore, and sometimes at the local Walmart.
Good luck with your babies!
