» elvina - Breastfeeding A Toddler

I agree entirely with what Shawna says, I am currently feeding my daughter, she will be 3 years old in December! She only feeds at nap time, bed time and if she is not feeling well but I would not swap these times for the world. It was not my intention to breastfeed this long and it was only, like Shawna, that I started reading about it after her birth that I realised that it is natural for a child to feed beyond baby hood. I also learnt that weaning happens naturaly when a child is ready and this is what we are aiming for. Breastfeeding is such a very very special thing and should not be limited to suit the feelings or expectations of others. I recommend it highly to any mother considering it, you cant make a better decision. Good luck.

In response to message posted by elvina:

Congratulations on your continued breastfeeding of your daughter! That's great! Hopefully more people will realize that this is not only normal, but very healthy.

Thanks for reading my article!

Shawna

I'm a mother at the age of 18 and i have 1 baby she is 1 year old her name is Aaliyah Nickole and I still breastfeed her. I do it in front of my husband, my husband is white and I'm black and we go out to eat my daughter she be telling me that she wants her bottle (my breast) so I do not go into the bathroom no I just take her out of the high chair and lift up my shirt and bra and give my baby my breast. And I'm going to brestfeed my twin girls when they get her, they will be here on thanksgiving the best gift ever!! so Elvina you do whatever you need to do good luck in the days to come

LaKeisha, that is wonderful!!! I'm so glad to hear that, and congratulations on your twins!! As more and more people breastfeed - and do so in public - then maybe less and less people will formula feed. YAY!!!

» Juju57 - Great article!

Hi, Shawna. My "baby" is 11 years old now, but he nursed until he was 3, when nature decided it was time to stop! I'm glad I nursed him as long as he wanted to, and I didn't care what anyone else thought! It was very infrequent the last year or so, maybe at bedtime, sometimes at nap time. So I encourage all who can do it to do so! Glad to see this topic here. Excellent job.

That is so great Julie! I'm currently still nursing my little girl, who just turned 3. I'm also 3 months pregnant with our next little nursling! :-)
