» JEWS3 - Thank you

I think what you are doing with these articles is a very informative and helpful asset.

These email hoaxes are very dangerous! Apparently, this one could be the most dangersous of them all. Misinformation can lead to disasterous results.

Even if this one is substantiated in future articles, the fact that you and others did not take it at face value and decided to research the topic shows that you are a very intelligent and caring person.

As a friend of a breast cancer survivor, I want to thank you for your effort to inform the public.

We all are looking for simple answers to complex questions. Some might take this email as a fact and think that if they stop using thier anti-perspirant, they will alleviate their chances of getting breast cancer. There can never be too much information on this subject.

Again, thank you for your concern on this matter and the wisdom you possess that made you research this topic.

» bajones - Email Hoax

Thank you Janice for your input. Your friend sure is lucky to have you, you obviously care alot about her. That could be one of the reasons she is a survivor! ;)

As a breast cancer survivor myself, and I can only speak for myself here, I was scared at first when I saw the "email". Then I thought, hmm, makes a little sense, maybe that's why and how I got breast cancer. Very few women/men find out exactly why they got it. Yes, we want answers. It's always "why me?", I don't care who you are, that's one of your first questions. But the more I logically thought about it rather than dreaming that it was my answer, the more it didn't make sense. Then, I saw a lot of other breast cancer patients and survivors worrying about the same things I was.
So here we are, and I wanted to present the information on an unbiased basis without swaying anyone one direction or another, just the plain facts. But, now I can say I DO NOT BELIEVE ANTI-PERSPIRANTS ARE A CAUSE IN ANY WAY SHAPE OR FORM!! I do however believe that some ingredients can cause other problems, it does not cause cancer!!!!!

» putsy45 - Anti-perspiratnt is "a" cause of Breast Cancer?

Bobbi,
After reading your articles, which by the way were very informative, I DO believe that this was a HOAX!
It seems to me that neither Cancer Prevention Coalition or Neway could claim otherwise. I also have received a letter from the American Cancer Society in response to my asking them is it, or is it not a hoax. Their reply was that they have done research and have NO EVIDENCE that anti-perspirants are a cause of breast cancer.

Thank you for all the very informative articles that you have written and the best of luck in your breast cancer journey.

Thank you for the lovely compliment on my articles.

You know what the shame is in all of this is? We can't believe stuff like that because there are so many people in the world this day in age that take advantage of the sick, the old, the young... anybody they can to make a buck or two. That's SAD!!!

I'm glad to see that I wasn't the only one that started researching this out. Good for you too!!

» Kassper - Just another thing to make people worry.

Hi Bobbi,

Great job on these articles. I read all of them with particular interest. And frankly, I can't see how anti-perspirant causes breast cancer.

First off, I have yet to use one that kept me from perspiring, I'll always sweat some. Secondly, sweat is basically water and salt. Its purpose is to cool us off when it evaporates. Third, the odor is from the dying bacteria, which lives on our skin, not from toxins being released from our bodies.

From what I understand of anti-perspirant it's supposed to close off the pores of the skin to keep water from emerging from us. The amount of the chemicals to cause cancer would be astronomically huge! Like the saccharin study with the rats years ago. Of course they got cancer, they were being feed pounds of the stuff. Anything in huge (and I do mean huge) quantities is bound to cause a mutation of the cells.

So with that, thank you for publishing this and allowing us to put our two cents worth in on it.

» Kassper - Bra theory?

I'm more concerned with the theory that bras are the leading cause of cancer. Most women, especially my moms and mom-in-law (who is also a bc survivor) ages were told to buy bras that basically locked you into place and you didn't move. The test was to try on a bra and jump up and down, if you moved it was a bad bra. Those were what they wore and both had breast cancer. Both were also vegetarians and semi-vegetarians who got plenty of exercise.

My mom's doctor years ago started a study on the bra theory, but don't know if he ever finished it or not. He stated that women outside the US that didn't wear bras, or at lest less restricting, had a lower bc to none at all.

So just to be on the safe side of things, my bras offer support yet lots of movement.

» bajones - Re; Bra theory

I have heard of this theory. I can't say that I've done my homework on it, but I can say that everyone I have heard from on it, says it was a hoax as well. Now, I typically don't give this much information out, but I am not that big up top and most of my life I was against bras...when I did wear them...I would bounce. And I got cancer. Not that just one person would make you believe it's not true...but just what I know.

It's an interesting piece to do an article on. I plan in the pretty soon future to put an article or two together on all the "causes" out there and maybe I'll include this one.

Thanks for your input..Love to hear it!!

Bobbi

PS...tell your Mom to keep hanging in there ;)
