» CEBarrett - Mastectomy

What a good, informative article, Bobbi. I know a woman who had a modified radical on one side, and then had the other removed as a prophylactic measure. She's very happy with having no breasts, and is leading an active life.

A little over a year ago, I lost my mum to breast cancer. She'd been fighting it for over five years, without surgery, or chemo or radiation. Her overall health precluded the surgery and she just refused the others. Tamoxifen was how they treated her, with morphine when she needed it. You better believe I check myself frequently.

I'm glad you're addressing this whole issue.

» bajones - Thank you

Thank you Chris for the compliment. I'm truly sorry that you lost your Mom to breast cancer. I will find out Thursday about tamoxifen for myself. I'm not sure if I'll be put on it.

I have considered the prophylatic mastectomy, but dismissed it. I went ahead and decided on reconstruction.

I'm very happy to hear that you are checked out regularly. I am a firm believer that women should start earlier and be more agressive when it comes to breast exams and mammograms. I was one that thought I was still too young and lookie here.

Thanks again
Bobbi Jones

» vpage - Great Article

I would have to say I would want a masectomy if I was diagnosed with breast cancer.

Thanks for writing such an informative article.
