Irish Soda Bread

My mother has an allergy to yeast--we have purchased beautiful loaves of yeastless bread from a bakery that is 90 miles from her home, but she would like to bake it herself. She is an experienced baker, but we have no idea how to make a yeastless loaf. Any suggestions?
