» Ruben59 - BPD and service providers: How do I stay sane?

I am a social worker who runs into Borderlines once in a while. Their demandingness and emotional lability drives me nuts.
What is the best way to handle these people without being sucked into their emotionality and their demands. I understand that ignoring them is not the answer. I almost feel that there are no good answers when it comes to dealing with Borderlines.
Does anyone who works with BPD or who has successfully dealt with BPD have suggestions?

I'm curious. Are you uni qualified? What type of service do you provide where diagnosis-specific problems are an issue to be "successfully dealt with"? And what is success in this context?

I'm thinking your risk of attachment may not be isolated to this problem as the symptoms you list are not unique to BPD. How do you stay sane, you ask? How successful are you in dealing with all other forms of mental illness...and why is that?

The best way to handle them depends on what you are required to do for them and where your skills lie. I just hope you are not getting your professional idea of what BPD is, from this site.
