» biogardener - a most moving and inspiring story

Kathy, I am moved and inspired by this story, especially so since I have friends who met at university in Kiev, in the former USSR. They have been and are still going through hell on account of the problems which were caused by Elena, a Russian, marrying Luis, a Peruvian. They are still in danger of being sent to jail or to their deaths and their two children being made wards of two different states. All they did wrong was to fall in love.

You can read about them in the article which I wrote about my involvement with their daughter. Part of the ongoing story enfolds in the discussion thread.

» Saralou - My Sergei

I enjoy reading this book, although it was bittersweet from the beginning--knowing that Sergei was destined to die. It was interesting to know what was going on behind the scenes at times when we were watching their public life. I think Katia is an extremely strong and courageous person to have accepted this adversity and forged forward.

» Kathy_K - My Sergei

Traute,

What a devastating story. I will definitely stop by your article soon. I believe Sergei and Katia had a much easier time than the normal Soviet couples. Being top athletes in Communist Russia was about as high status as you could get.

Saralou,

This story was heartbreaking for me, especially since I followed Sergei and Katia's career. They exuded love when they skated and were together for much of there lives. I don't know how she found the strength to go on.

Kathy

» biogardener - saw the book

Just want to tell you that I saw the book in a second-hand store last week. Also want to let you know that I am updating the Valentine event to run again in 2003, and this article is already in it. The graphics for the banner is updated to reflect the new date. Have a look, and by all means, submit any other love stories which you may have written about since.

» biogardener - Me again

It's me again, but this time I am talking to Irene. I am happy to see that this topic has been adopted. That will allow me to keep this article in the Valentine event for 2005.
