» vibe79 - hernia operation
I had an operation for an inguinal hernia 2 days ago. I really regret the decesion to take the operation since my scrotum has swelled up and turned purple and I cannot concieve of ever attempting heavy weights again. Swelling is suppossed to be the normal reaction but I keep reading websites about recurrrent hernia's and various infections. The good thing about the hernia is that it taught me to eat moderately and therefore kept the fat off. Also, If I ever attempted a heavy weight I could feel the hernia so I knew when to stop.-- posted by vibe79

In response to message posted by vibe79:I had the hernia operation on my left side 11 days ago and everything went smoothly. My only concern is whether the tube carrying the sperm from the left testicle is working. Has anyone had this concern? and how do you test for the functionality of this tube?

In response to message posted by dunn001:if you get it fixed right away and while it's small then you will be good. my surgen totaled my time away from the gym five months from day of surgery. if you get the surgery where they use the mesh then it will be faster. in case you didn't know hernia's are mostlikely caused from weak abs. so about three months after surgery start working your abs lightly, and don't do it every day. gradually work your way back and don't rush it, if you rush it you will risk ripping it again. but don't freak out because if you let it heal and work you'r way back up slowly you will heal 100%. and don't wory about loosing your strength you could be away from the gym for a year and go back to the gym and get right back to where you left off within a couple of months, thats just the way the body works.

In response to message posted by desarda:I have had two surgeries on one each side. I am 22 and play university football, and have not had any problems lifting... yes I lost size anstrenghtht because of recovery. Musclmemmoryry is great, and I am stronger then ever. My first surgery was when I was 19 and I had one March of last year... taking time to recover is hard but is important. You can always get youstrengthth and size back so relax. It is better than rushing anre-injouringng yourself. Though you still will feel thsurguryry because it will never be 100% it ialotot better then not getting it fixethatsts for sure. Though you loose a little feeling near thinsissionon, nothing to worry about my boys still work. Get thsurguryry done if you need to, and get back in shape... plus it is a cool scare and girls love to stare and give you sympathy...

In response to message posted by Fitifire:I had an inguinal repair using mesh. I like to beach launch an inflatable boat(180 pounds) with an outboard motor (100 pounds). Will I ever be able to do this again with some help from a buddy? Pulling the boat off the trailer and carrying it down to the ocean is tough. Should I just forget about it or work up to it by lifting weights. What about a timeline? Any knowledge or experience will help. The doc told me I could never do it again, but I think he was being super conservative. Thanks for any help!!

» Chesterfield84 - Groin pain after inguinal hernia op
I got hold of this discussion from google. I am able to sympathise with a lot of the posts. I had a hernia op 3 months ago. It was a bad one as my hernia became strangulated and I was only a few hours away from losing the use of my bowels. The doctors told me 2.5 months before I could lift again and I waited probably two months before going back to the gym.
I've been trying to take it easy but I've started to get a pain in my groin after lifting. It is quite bad and hurts when I walk around.
I would be grateful if anyone could tell me if they have experienced this follwoing a hernia op.
thanks Matt
