» jackhass - decreasing fat around the tummy

Matt, I am trying to decrease the fat around my stomach. I have been doing sit-ups and can see a tiny tiny decrease, but what can I do diet wise to decrease the fat around the stomach? Also, as a side question, how many calories do you suggest for a 5'7, 132 lbs. women per day?

Matt,
That's 5 feet 7 inches, not age 57, I am 21.

Thanks,
Shannon

You definitely want to add some diet and cardio into the equation, since crunches alone won't help you reach your goals.

As for the calories, it depends on your natural metabolism and body composition.
If your 132 lbs are lean muscle mass, you're distinctively different from someone weighing 132, where 40 lbs is pure lard.

The best way to get a handle on YOUR situation, write down everything (!) you eat during a normal week. Then calculate the calories exactly (buy a cheap calorie counting book) and divide the grand total by 7. If your weight stayed the same during the week, you're looking at your approximate status quo-intake of calories.
