Absolute Beginner

» Heather1 - Where do I start? I've always wanted to learn to sail, and this summer I'll be on the Mediterranean, so I'd like to take a class. I just don't want to show up without knowing the aft from my arse. Any sites out there for the absolute beginner? Any book recommendations?-- posted by Heather1 » captmatt - For Beginners Heather,A good start would be to take the online Basic Boating Safety Course at http://boatsafe.com. This course is approved by the National Association of State Boating Law Administrators (NASBLA) and recognized by the US Coast Guard as acceptable to the National Recreational Boating Safety Program. Most marine insurance companies, in all states, give discounts to boat owners who have successfully completed such a course. There is a chapter on "sailing basics". Also, if you would like to get some hands-on sailing instruction, we would be happy to accommodate you through our International Marine Educators division.
