It is not the estrogen alone that causes weight gain as your friend told you, but the progesterone and the individual's reaction to the hormones. That is why so many women have such problems with Depo (it only contains progesterone) and weight gain.
The 'average' weight gain while using most birth control pills is only about 5 pounds.
