Birth control Pill and gaining weight (Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo)
This archived discussion is "read only".
» Desirella - Gaining weight on BC pill I just started birth control for the first time yesterday, Ortho-Tri Cyclen Lo and from what I've heard, wether a person gains weight or not is a person to person basis, but one of my friends is telling me that it doesn't matter, estrogen makes you gain weight...period.. so what is true about gaining weight on bc pills?-- posted by Desirella » ttcweb - Re: Gaining weight on BC pill In response to message posted by Desirella:You are correct, it is different for each woman. Some will gain weight with some birth control methods, and won't with others, and some women won't gain weight with any method. It is not the estrogen alone that causes weight gain as your friend told you, but the progesterone and the individual's reaction to the hormones. That is why so many women have such problems with Depo (it only contains progesterone) and weight gain. The 'average' weight gain while using most birth control pills is only about 5 pounds. -- posted by ttcweb » jesslib001 - gaining weight I had norplant inserted into my arm 5 years ago and just recently had it removed. I never gained weight through my entire experience with it and now that I have had it removed, I am starting to gain weight. I have been researching different types of birth control pills and I am really concerned with the weight gain and I am not sure what direction to take or which one to go with....any advice....eeek!-- posted by jesslib001 » ttcweb - Re: gaining weight In response to message posted by jesslib001:Is it possible that the weight gain is water weight? Does the gain seem to fluctuate throughout the month? If this is the case, then you might want to look into Yasmin. Yasmin is a newer pill that helps to prevent water weight gain. If the weight gain is not from water and does not fluctuate throughout the month then it could be due to hormonal changes and small changes in your eating patterns. If this is the case, watching what you eat a little closer should stop the gain and even reverse it. Because it does take a bit of time for our bodies to asjust to not having synthetic hormones in them, it may not be easily apparent what is causing the gain. -- posted by ttcweb
