I tried dieting--completely cut sodas and fried foods out of my diet, thinking these were the causes of the weight gain, only to have other friends tell me their friends' horror stories of weight gain on the patch. I'm now looking for a different means of birth control--any suggestions? I have recently started the patch about two months ago and have had the worst nightmares. I never really had any nightmares before but now i get them maybe every second night.I have woken my boyfriend up by crying in my sleep and making noises. Is this a side effects from the patch? I also have taken off the patch for my week off but i haven't started yet. This has been the fourth day. I had taken Ortho Tricyclen for a few years and never had any problems, but I switched to the patch because of a request from my endocrinologist. I have an underactive thyroid (hypothyroidism) and my doctor recommended I try the patch to regulate hormones/testosterone level...something along those lines. Well I have noticed that during the time I have been on the patch, I have had mood swings like you would not believe. I cry at almost nothing, go from being completely happy to totally depressed in no time. I never had this problem before and it is really affecting my daily life, relationship with my boyfriend, school...pretty much everything. I also had spotting on the patch, which NEVER happened with the pill. Last Friday I saw the gynecologist and decided that I wanted to go back to Ortho Tricyclen, but I have not started the cycle yet. I am really hoping that getting back on the pill will stop the mood swings...I guess I just want to know if any of you have had these side effects? It's just so miserable and I feel so bad for my poor boyfriend...I swear I don't know how he puts up with it...must be love ;-) Thanks for listening... -- posted by Lesleighann » jenilynwalters - BIRTH CONTROL LAWSUITS I have just found out today that young teens to early twenties women have a bigger risk of blood clots and strokes well on the patch. ALSO that 17 people have died from using the patch. THERE ARE LAWSUITS GOING ON RIGHT NOW OVER THE PATCH! I noticed that someone else on here said that they are not well that is not true. If you go to an internet search page and look up ortho evra lawsuit it will give you a list of websites explaining my concerns. All I have to say is whether they have proved it or not, I'M DONE!! I'm only 19 and would like to live the rest of my life. Back to the pill it is. Last but not least the patch is said to be 3 times more likely than the pill to cause those effects!! 3 TIMES!!!!-- posted by jenilynwalters » Lesleighann - Switching from the patch to the pill Hey everybody...I'm a little confused and was wondering if any of you could help me. I am now off of the horrible patch and waiting to start back on the pill. The nurse told me to just start the pill the Sunday after I start my next period, as usual. Here's the problem: I started bleeding yesterday. According to my calendar I should not start my period for another two weeks or so...that is if my last period was even a period at all. I started to have some spotting with the patch, which I never experienced before at all, so I was kind of unsure as to what it was. Well this time I've got all the symptoms of a period...the cramping and all that fun stuff, but I'm not sure if it really is and if I should start taking the pill this Sunday. I have checked a few forums an they all have examples of ladies who are experiencing hair loss when they are using Evra Patch. I have this too, and i have been using it for 7 months, now my hair loss is 100 strands/shower. I dont want to get bald too (in my late 20's??? no way). I am on my 3rd month of the patch and my sex drive is nearly gone as well. I starting taking the patch to even out my hormone levels which it seems to have done that. My periods are better, I don't lose hair like I did, my acne is clearning up and the best of all I've lost 15 lbs so far. But I am wondering if that is all worth it if my sex drive has to go? My husband isn't too pleased and actually is angry at me right now. He left for work and is not speaking to me because he got turned down again. Anyone else experiencing this?-- posted by cmecu2 » cmecu2 - Re: Delaying Periods I did that for one month and ended up spotting for 2 months. I decided that I didn't want to have a period at all and that was the result. I guess you could try it but it didn't work out for me.
