In response to message posted by rlsrox:

I have been on the patch for 12 weeks and also gained weight. I have weighed the same for 3 years!! I have been very careful with my diet but it does not seem to make a diff. I am off this thing. Can anyone tell me if they lost the weight they gained after they went off the patch?

» endurer11 - Re: Re: Weight Gain and other issues

Hi. Ive been using ortho-evra for over a year and truthfully, I have really loved it. The first few months I went through what everyone has discussed on here about the spotting. This is normal. I encourage you all to use it for at least 3 months. I did not have a weight gain, however I do notice a sort of 'bloated abdomen' frequently.
I am writing today to say that I have decided to switch back to the pill because I recently joined a gym and my excessive sweating and showering has caused a decreased effectiveness in the sticking of the patch to my skin!!! And today - for some reason I got my period - even with the patch on. So I know that the patch has been useless over the last few days because of the fact its been peeling off me from jogging! The patch is an amazing discovery and I would recommend it to anyone. However, if your athletic you might have issues. Maybe if I tried putting it on my arm it would be different, but I was most comfortable placing it on alternating sides of my abdomen...good luck and to everyone who is a 'newbie' give it time....you will not regret it...-Endurer11

» gingerbread283 - ortho evra

I have been on the patch for one month after being on the pill for several years. I don't think I can handle it. Not only am I back to unbearable cramps, but also heavier and longer than normal periods. Not ony was it two days late, but two days longer than it was supposed to be...and yes for the first time in ages, I could not button my pants!..ooh the bloatage! It certainly put a damper on my valentine's day. I don't know if I can put up with this much longer. I am going to try to complete the three month test 'period' and see what happens. Help!

» sameasalways - appetite increase/labile mood

I have had a horrible appetite increase on this patch. I feel hungry ....make that practically starving....all the time.....even in an hour of eating a full course meal. I normally do not have hardly any appetite at all and I am 28 and have been the same weight since age 16 and this really irritates and worries me. How can I possibly not gain weight when my appeite is so high now? I have been on this patch almost two weeks now and am afraid of how much I will weight in 5 more weeks of being on it. Anyone try Mircette oral contraceptive?

» jlgab345 - My experience

I was on Depo Provera for almost 4 years after the birth of my son. I started Ortho Evra nearly a year ago in anticipation of trying to get pregnant (heard it could take forever after Depo).

The first couple weeks of Ortho I really felt pregnant! I had every single symptom that I had with my first baby! I called the doctor and they said it was normal. After the first couple weeks they all stopped. I had regular cycles almost to the same hour every month starting my period. I didn't gain any additional weight, in fact I upped my workouts and ended up losing 5 pounds over the year. I worked out 3-5 times a week and never had a patch come un-stuck.

In mid-Feb my husband and I decided it was time to go for #2. Now I'm concerned that I won't be able to get pregnant right way. Does anyone have any experience in trying to get pregnant after Ortho Evra?

Hope I helped a little, any feedback on my question would be much appreciated!

» aweaver - Re: side effects

I wore the patch for 2 weeks. The entire time I felt sick to my stomach, tired, you name it. The three days before I finally took it off, I broke out in hives every day. I took it off after 2 weeks. The hives stopped the day I took it off. But my body had finally had enough. That same day, I got violently ill. I threw up for days. I felt so tired, just like I was pregnant. I have now been off of it for two full weeks. I STILL feel sick to my stomach every day and am still exhausted. I called and talked to my dr. today. He was no help. He said the hives could have been caused by anything and he couldn't explain my other symptoms. He's usually more caring that than. Anyway, I know my body and I truly feel that's what's wrong with me. I just wonder how long it's going to take this to get out of my system. I was perfectly healthy before I used the patch. Any answers would be appreciated.

» CaitlinRose - weight gain and patch-free week of first cycle

I was on Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo for almost a year and was very happy with it - I never experienced any bad side effects, maybe a negligible weight gain. My doc recently started me on the patch in hopes that it would not affect my blood pressure as much. I'm currently in my third week of the first cycle and I have been feeling heavier since I've been on the patch. This is almost enough to make me want to quit the patch - I'm incredibly body conscious and the weight gain is bothering me so much! Will my weight level out again after the 3-month trial period? If I return to my pills, will my weight return to normal?
Another question: I've read on the boards that the first period you have while on the patch is pretty heavy. My period normally is pretty light, only 3-4 days. Next week, which is supposed to be my first patch free week, I'm going to Europe and will be in transit for the time when my period would be starting. I'm worried that I'm going to be caught off guard because of the change in my period timing due to the patch. Would anyone recommend skipping the period and going on to the next patch cycle? I did this sometimes with my pills and there were never negative side effects. Any input on either of these issues would be greatly appreciated! smile

» barrettbabe776 - Re: appetite increase and weight gain

I am turning 28 soon, and I have been the same size since I was 13 years old.I am in my 2nd month using the patch. It seems like that I am hungry all the time. I have gained 5 lbs. which is a good thing because I've been trying to gain for a long time.I have also been nauseated a lot.(but food seems to calm the nausea) Normally I have killer cramps, but this time, I didn't have any cramps. My cycle was also shorter. But I am spotting a little and my period ended Saturday. So, overall I like the patch. And I would recommend it to anyone looking for contraception.
