» aliciaaa - how can you tell if the patch is working?

I am considering going on the patch and was just wondering how you can tell if the patch is working properly. I would get very parinoid always wondering if it was effective. And where is the best place to put it? After reading some of these posts it looks like the abdomen seems to be the best.

The patch has been very very effective for me so far. I tried mine other places besides my abdomen, but I didn't feel as comfortable with those places as I did with the patch on my abdomen. The first two months you will be paraniod it is going to fall off or the wrinkles make it less effective, but after a few months you will realize your body has to move and the patch is on your bady so it has to move too. As long as it is not drastic, you are fine.

About the effectiveness, if it makes you feel better, I have been on the patch for 8 months and my husband and I do not use ANY other forms of contraception.

You body will need to adjust to the patch, as with any hormonal substance you put in your body, but stick with it because it is worth it in the end!

Good Luck!

Hi there - I had ALL those symptoms too...(I posted about them here - it was terrible! I want to encourage you that after a few months they all went away, every single one. I used to get nauseated on day two of patch one, have terrible breast tenderness, and my stomach was always upset - not anymore smile I've been on it about 5 months and all is well - sexually active since July 12 wedding date and so far it's effective. It really is so convenient - I recommend you stick it out a couple more months and decide then... good luck!

In response to message posted by xandralyna:

Hi, I had an upset stomach for quite a while - I think all through month two! In addition to that I would be VERY nauseated on the morning of the second day of my first patch... then came the breast tenderness... BUT, after about 3 months my body had gotten used to the hormones and all of the side effects went away. Everything you are saying sounds normal - read back through the posts on this board and you will see many women went through the same thing. 5 months in, I have NO side effects and I am very happy with the patch. I hope this helps put your fears to rest - stick it out three months (how long it usually takes) and if you still have problems, switch to something else...

» larlar1983 - 3 ice cream sandwiches and a piece of pumpkin pie later

I am on my second week of being on the patch (haven't used bc in about a year)and since then I have gone from a B to a C cup in bra size, started crying over the most random non important stuff, have uncontrollable food cravings, and fight daily with the idea of just ripping the thing off. If I hadn't had found this website, I would probably be on my way to a shrink right now. So I guess this is all pretty normal, but I can't handle the weight gain that I am sure is going to come from these stupid cravings.I am regularly athletic and a healthy eater and lately all I want to eat are desserts. So I am gonna take the thing off this sunday and just leave it off...All my friends are on "Hormone Watches" with me. This bc was definetly not for me.

» Mkately - spotting on the patch

I have just started my third week on the patch today. I'm using it because for the last year I've had irregular periods, sometimes even skipping them, and frankly i'm tired of it. Imagine my surprise when I discovered spotting this morning... I've read some of the posts and it seems I'm not the only one. People are saying that it will even out once your body gets used to it, but does anyone know that it has? It doesn't really seem worth it to stay on it for me, if it will keep doing this....and would another birth control do the same??
thanks-- megan

» Geena0977 - Taking off the patch a week early

I am going on vacation and it seems I will be scheduled to get my period while being there. I know you can skip the no week patch in order not to get your period, but I am wondering if I can take it off a week earlier instead in order to avoid being bloated etc. on vacation?
