» Seana9 - New Evra User Help! advice please

Hi
Evra has just become available in the UK, and I decided to give it a go instead of the pill, however, after reading the guidance leaflet Im not so sure what to expect. Hopefully I can get some views here! Im getting married soon and desperately dont want to gain any more weight, but after reading some reviews think that is going to be big side effect and after enjoying regular periods for years on the pills, get impression it may be a bit irregular from now on? please someone tell me of their good experiences with Evra. In response to message posted by MONIK19:

i have found that when i put it on a less fatty area, it stays on better when i get wet like swimming or bathing, when i get out i hold the patch down until it dries. try putting the patch on a place that does not bend or fold, i usually put my patches on my lower abdomen but i have heard that the back is the best place. you might need help putting it on there.

I've been using Ortho Evra for one month. The worst side effects I've had so far have been breast tenderness and spotting. I've had these two side effects the entire time I've been on it, even on my patch free week. Breast tenderness has been so bad I'm unable to go running. Hopefully the side effects go away in a few months, otherwise, I'll try something else.I've had some nausea and redness from the patch site, but it hasn't been intolerable. I've worn the patch on my upper back and haven't had problems with the patch pulling up at all.

» Tasmin - wearing patch for 4 weeks instead of 3, then week off ?

Hi all, I've been wearing the patch for almost three weeks now, with no probs (well, apart from the strange 'fluff' that seems to come from nowhere and make the patch grotty on the edges !!). My question is - I normally have a 34 day cycle, so I would rather wear the patch for 4 weeks straight, then have a patch-free week. Has anyone done this, or know whether it is ok to do so ? Thnx !

In response to message posted by Tasmin:

Hi Tasmin,
My cycle is usually 40 days and my gyno partly prescribed the patch to make it shorter. She said it might not be healthy to shed the uterine lining so infrequently. However, yours is shorter so I don't know if that applies. I know people occasionally go an extra week to avoid periods during weddings, spring break, etc. but don't know if it's ok to do that on an on-going basis. I would definitely check with your doctor.

» rlsrox - Weight Gain and other issues

Hi--
I'm new to the forum but have been using Ortho Evra since about February. I have a few questions and am pleased to have found a place where this method is discussed.

First...the weight gain. HELP. Until I began reading here, I didn't connect my recent gain to the patch, but now am starting to think that is the cause. I can't pinpoint any radical changes in my diet, though I don't exercise, but I have put on something like 10 pounds since I started using it, and it's not coming off. I'm VERY frustrated by this and am wondering if anyone has had success LOSING weight while on the Patch--especially weight they believe has come from Patch use.

Also--just what are the failure rates for the patch--are there issues with people getting pregnant that are in any large numbers? I've had the problems with the edges getting full of fuzz, and the folds and etc. It works best on my upper arm but that's not practical for summer, so I've tried my front abdomen and that seems to be working best. But I worry every month about it, because by the end of the week, with the fuzzies and the folds and whatever, I do wonder just how much of the contraceptive is getting where it needs to be.

I haven't had other side effects, which has made this a very nice contraceptive to use. I think the first month I had a tad of breast tenderness, but it was really brief.

My OB has me taking them 12 weeks at a time, which has been GREAT--I love not having a period every month, and there hasn't been a problem with that, except the extra cost. Anyone know if Ortho Evra is planning to make a 4 week pack available, or something--my OB says he routinely prescribes this in week group like that, and it adds on to the yearly prescription needs.

Thanks for any tips, advice, etc. The weight gain is on my mind big time this morning.

Elizabeth

» sydjd - early period...

I'm still three days away from my "patch-free" week. But last night I got terrible cramps like I was going to start my period and I had some spotting today. Is this normal, or is something else up? I never had cramps at all before starting my period with the ortho tri-cyclen, just a little queasiness. Also, my bloating has never gone away during the first three weeks of use. Will it ever???

» hannah1603 - missed period

I started the patch on the first day of my period last month. On day 2, I had a horrible reaction to it and was advised to take it off. Now, a month later, I am a week late getting my period and was wondering if those 2 days on the patch could have had something to do with it. I am not pregnant (have taken 3 pregnancy tests-all negative) and have none of those symptoms that I did when I did get pregnant with my daughter. In the past, my periods have been regular so I am VERY concerned and would like some feedback ASAP! Thank you !

» buff4444 - gf gets less side effects with patch on front

I have 2 questions/concerns...
First, my girlfriend had some serious nausea when she wore the patch on her butt, but when she wears it on her lower abdomen, she is for the most part, free of any stomach problems. I remember reading somewhere that the patch is more effective when worn on the butt, and I'm not sure if there is any truth to that or not?? I don't want her to go through that nausea, but I also don't want the patch to be less effective because she wears it on her lower ab. What do you know about this?
Second, her new patch day is Sunday, and she couldn't get a prescription until Wednesday, so what should we do? Should she wait until Sunday and start over? Or can she start Wed and then put a new patch on Sunday and continue as she did. Also, how long before she is protected again??
Thank you so much for your time and help.
