Works like a charm, except when I forget a few! The patch is/was my solution... I was not warned, however, of the changes my body was going to encounter. Ladies, be prepared for the breast-soreness and the spotting. Heavy first period, too. It's a change! I'm looking forward to these dissipating soon... next month, I think. My cold sores flared up and I cried for two days over "nothing". Sounds like when I first went on hormonal birth control. Thing is, I'm not going to give up... the convenience of another possible 17 years is at stake over three months of mild discomfort. I'm only trying to say that anything that messes with your chemistry is going to have side effects, and birth control is notorious for its' adjustment period. Good luck, all of you! They look like open sores now. It could be an allergic reaction to the patch, or it could be something totally different. At this point, I do not think that it should lower the patch's effectiveness. You can try wearing it on different areas (buttocks, upper outer arm, upper back, or lower abdomin) to see if one place works better than another. -- posted by ttcweb » Ashalina - everlasting period..... I've been on the patch now for 2 weeks and I still have my period! I really don't think this is normal. And it's not like my regular period, it's this brown flemmy stuff(I appologize for the gruesome details.) Has anyone else experienced this or should I call my doctor immediately? Other things I've noticed are that sometimes the place where the patch is starts throbbing, my skin has gotten worse-not better, and I've been pretty moody(I suppose that's understandable with all those other symptoms!)I'd really appreciate it if someone could let me if any of this is normal and if not what I can do. The 'brown flemmy stuff' is spotting, which is common when first starting a new hormonal birth control method, as are the skin problems and moodiness. The skin throbbing where the patch is would be my only concern. If you are placing the patch on either your buttocks, upper outer arm, upper back, or lower abdomin and have the 'throbbing' you may want to discuss it with your doctor. If the patch has been applied to any place other than the above, that could be the cause for the throbbing, and the patch should be immediately move to an appropriate area on your body. The throbbing could also be just because you 'know' where the patch is so any little sensation now will draw your attention. If however, there is localized pain where the patch is, call your doctor immediately and remove the patch. The spotting, skin problems, and moodiness should go away during the first three months of use. If they have not gone away after three full months of use, then you can talk to your doctor about switching to a different form of birth control. It is always best to give any hormonal birth control a full three months of use before switching to something else.
