» cutiepie78 - shot nightmare

I recieved the shot on 7/12/05. My period stopped for 2 days, and i have now been bleeding almost everyday for 6 months. I am severely depressed, gained 10-15 lb, have no sex drive, and (as much as I wash and take care of that area)have a strong odor coming from you know where. It is a real thick and dark brown discharge that comes out also. I would never reccomend the shot to anyone. Even if some people do not get extreme side effects, it's too much of a risk to take.

» ladykitty - Re: weight

weight gain is listed in the side effects. however, no doctor will tell you about many of Depo's effects... except strokes, blood clots, and those things. Sorry u have stretch marks & gained weight but, you are alive & relatively healthy, correct? If u want to loss weight than exercise , eat right, drink plenty of water & get enough sleep. Good Luck, Mich

I am so sorry. I cannot imagine the frustration. What does your MD say about all this? Have you & your partner considered fertility evaluation. Perhaps your husband has slow sperm, or you could have endometriosis....There are many reasons u may not b getting pregnant... Have a long talk with your M.D. Good luck & God Bless. Mich

Wow u have a lot going on here i hope i can be some help...I am on depo 4 many years noww. I rarely have periods... I have had a bit of breakthrough bleeding (what the MD's call it)but the doctors assure me everything is okay. I ahve thinning hair 2 but it is not a major concern 4 me...A very small thing compared to the struggles of others....I am not trying 2 b mean...But I want 2 put things in perspective 4 u. The headaches... How bad are they? with ZERO being no pain.... and TEN being the WORST pain u can imagine... Did you have any headaches BeFore the shot? Unfortunetly, the loss of desire for sex is one side effect I personally found out about recently myself...It really sucks. How does your lover treat u in the bedroom? Is he loving, touching u , whispering sweet things in your ear? these are all things 2 consider...I think the best idea is to speak with your MD to see if u can resolve some of these problems. Take Care, Mich Good Luck!!!

The pill may be better 4 you ... discuss your options with your MD... Loss of periods is normal because you stop ovulating therefore there is no lining of the uterus to shed.... which means no periods... I love not getting mine.. I do not miss the mess & cramping I had while getting periods... Bone loss is one of the risks... if you are that scared talk 2 your MD about getting a bone density test...This will tell u if u have any bone loss.. did your friends grandma's family have a history of osteoporosis or arthiritis? These would make it morelikely 4 her 2 get the bone loss. Good luck with your health and birth control discissions. Mich

» gamom81 - The Horrible Depo

Ever since I was 13 I have been on some sorts of birth control. For some reason my body does not work well with birth control. When I got pregnant with my son I was on the pill. Now 6 years later I decided to do the depo shot. My sister started the depo in May of 2005 and she has done wonderful on it. So in November I decided to try it..........I read about all the side effects and the risk, but since I've tried EVERYTHING else..I would try this too!
Bad mistake!
First 2-3 weeks was okay! After that it has been awful. I have not stopped bleeding. I am loosing tissue and huge blood clots. I just went to the doctor, they took blood work and so on...I wasnt happy with the answer the gave me. So I went to the county hospital and sure enough...down fall of the DEPO VERA. I have had every side effect that the depo vera offers! Within 2 months I have gained aprox. 12 pounds. I never want to get out of bed. I always feel moody and guess what my blood pressure has went up and now im on blood pressure medicine. I would never advice this shot to anyone. Women go through enough in life..we dont need this!

» scooter1979 - Depro Vera

Hi there everyone!I recently got the shot on Dec.19,2005 because my Doctor highly reccommended it because i have a conditoin called endometriosis and it is suppose to help with the pain and discomfort of the disorder. The thing is after it being two months my only symptoms are of course no period, some headaches,i am extremely emotional(Crying at the drop of a hat),I am trying to lose weight and my weight has not moved at all and i have been experiencing passing clots.i am due to get another shot in the next month but am unsure of what to do i am really scared to get it again after reading some of your stories and thinking to stop it before it gets worse.Anyone with suggestions?

I took depo eight years ago. After my third child i tried depo. I took the shot twice. I gained thirty pounds, headaches, cramps & no bleeding. Still to this day i don't get a period, slight headaches, vaginal discomfort, mood swings and i just can't seem to shake the weight. I lost fifteen pounds with very intense working out. This took three months. The minute i stopped the weight came right back. I don't have a appetite. Don't eat much. My stomach just feels real tight. I went from 135 pounds to 165 pounds after the depo. Eight years later i'm still 165. It doesn't go down. It doesn't go up. IT just sits. I shouldn't have to work out five days a week for two to three hours to keep the extra weight off. I never had this problem before. So why should i have to now. It needs to come the market.
