» livestrong - Re: depo side effects

Hi I have been on Depro for about 5 years and in that time frame have lost my hair twice. The doctors don't blame it on the shot but I always felt that it had something to do with it. Please e-mail me at joannemarywalsh@yahoo.com if you have had the same side effect. I would like to talk to someone about it

thanks

I feel for you, my last shot was in Jan2005, I haven't got my period or spot nothing. But the last 2months I have been getting cramps, breast hurts, mood swings and feeling sick. I keep on thinking to Am I pregnant!!!! I was on depo for a year after my son was born. I was so moodier after my 3rd shot. So I went looking for answers and I wish I never went on it. I'm so scared that I cant have a another baby or If I am pregnant is the child safe from being on the shot.

i am in the exact same situation, i had my son ijanuaryry 1998 first unplanned child and have been odepopverara every since. I have recently had a stroke and continuously had problems with my health for the past 7 years never thought something that i was advised to take to just prevent forgetting the pill and having another unplanned child would be so harmful. but i was reading because i have had irregular bleeding since i stopped taking the shot off and on. i was reading on somwebsitete where we may need to start taking estrogen tablets or some kind of vitamin containing estrogen to help come back to some normality, i am going to check back with the geniuses that allowed me to take the shot for so long and get some resolutions.
good luck if you find out anythiemailail me please krystalruckscks@yahoo.com

hey Laura my name is Heather. My situation is pretty much the same as yours. I have been on Depo for about a year and a half now. I have not had a period for the whole time, I have headaches at least once a day, and I never want to have sex. Recently my hair started to fall out also. I am so upset about it and my weight gain from it. I was wondering if you know when your hair will stop falling out and if Im going to actually go bald. I actually thought that there was something seriously wrong with me, but you made me feel better even when my doctor couldnt Let me know if your hair has stopped falling out yet

I have been in the depo shot for 2 years and everything was fine until a few months ago I started having problems with spotting and irregular menstrual flow. I have started recently to loose my hair in massive quantities and went to my doctor which told me that it was a side effect of the depo shot. She checked my thyroid and my blood and it was fine. This really surprised me since this had never happened before but her respond was that hairloss due to the shot can happen at any moment regardless of past shot cycles. The solution to my major hair loss from her was to get off the shot and try another birth control method. I just recently also learned about another worst side effect which is bone loss and we women need our bone density. For those trying to get pregnant I am telling you it will take some time. It took me one and half years to conceive my son after the end of my lost shot where with my daughter (I was depo free) we concieved her in one month. Be paitent and have hope and trust that your body will slowly but eventually once again be normal and regualte itself to allow for a healthy depo free conception. Good health to all!!
