In response to message posted by angleinthedark10:

I began Depo after the birth of my daughter. I recieved three shots within weeks of eachother to stop post-birth bleeding. Then I recieved 3 shots every 3 months. I never had my period afterwards. So it is common to not have your period soon after getting the shot. But just as a warning. I stopped the shot almost 8 months ago when my husband and I decided to try for another child. I have not had my period and am not ovulating. I am now on hormone therapy to try to get me to ovulate again. So, if you plan to have children, be careful, because you may be one of the few (like myself) that have a very difficult time become fertile again.

» airflowersun - Re: Nuvaring side effects

I realize your question was about Nuvaring ring but seeing you were on depo for a long time I have a question for you. I am considering getting off depo (I have only been on it for 1 year)After my first injection I have not bled at all, well I did one time for like a day or two but other then that no bleeding. I have had some cramping from time to time & thought I might get a period but never did. I'm kinda a moody person anyway so I don't know if my moodiness is due to the DP or just me, LOL! I have had no serious side effects whatsoever. I am worried about not taking DP now. Is there side effects after you stop taking it? I have not found much information on that with the exception of women finding it difficult to get pregnant which in my case would be a blessing. I am worried about other side effects, did you experience any from having stopped your DP?
Thank you in advance. Please reply to airflowersun@aol.com

» dahra - depo side effects

I got the depo when I had to do a myomectomy (removal of uterine fibroids) It was to stop my period so my hb levels could go up again as it was just over 6. I got 3 doses in 2 months. My period never stopped and I had rapid weight gain. It's the kind that is really hard to get rid of. Also the fibroids almost doubled in size for the 4 months going into surgery, and there was severe here loss. It's now 18 months since I did the surgery and my hair still hasn't regained its original length. Can you recommend something to be done so I could stop the effects of the depo?

» Nista - There are many problems I am experiencing from the use of depo.

There are many problems I am experiencing from the use of depo. I was recently diagnosed with depression (Depo provera induced) I am absolutely a different person. I am no longer interested in sex. The once healthy happy relationship I have with my boyfriend has diminished. Thank God that he is standing by me through this. It is very hard on both of us, he tries to understand but it's very hard to. My last injection was in May 2004. I haven't started my period yet. Although I feel like I am going to each day. I am constantly PMSing. It does not feel very good. I am also experiencing pains in my legs, headaches, nausea, dizziness, and the list goes on and on and on. I would encourage all women to be careful chosing the proper birth control. Depo Provera seems to work for some poeple. Well I was one of those people. I was on it for four years and had absolutely zero problems. I then got on it again and off again of course. Now I am suffering the consequences, along with my boyfriend. I hope that people that read this will re-think using this horrible drug.

» law83 - No problems here

I have been on depo provera for almost 4 years now and have not had any problems, besides some weight gain, which I have now lost. The shot itself doesnt cause weight gain, it just increases your appetite, so thats where most weight gain comes from. I can't believe the side effects some women have had from this, I had no idea that those could happen to me before I started taking the shot. I'm thankful I haven't had any problems. I'm getting married in 8 months, and will probably get off of depo soon after that in case we want to have children.

Hi there!
I had my last Depro in August. My husband and I want to start a family. My periods have still not return, but I have been experiencing terrible lower tummy cramps, loss of appetite, and moodiness. While I was on Depro I had no bad symptoms. How long did it take you before everything was normal?

» verysick - DEPO

well, now i see what has or could be my problems that I've been having. I started taking depo Vera in 2000 after having my son..... and ever since have had huge problems but only linked them to pour health and or stress. well after taking that first shot I was probably able to be deemed insane.... Not really a laughing matter though. I went threw insane mood swings and depression, pain, let me tell you about pain..... I think I've had severe cramps, odor, discharge, diarrhea constipation, painful hemroids, lack, no better yet NO sex drive ,personality changes loss in appetite to a gain in appetite....I've been in and out of the hospital every four months where i go one week throwing up can't eat or drink, go to the hospital they tell me i have the flu and send me home after they give me an IV. Ever since the first shot..... I stopped taking the hot and my body was starting to return to normal..... and then after a miscarriage was talked back into to the shot after I brought my concerns forth and was told that it was impossible for depo to be to cause of any of those symptoms. So with the advice of a doctor took it again....... DITO!!!! same this same problem different boyfriend.....The reason different boyfriend is important is because the father of my son and I fought constantly because of my uncontrollable mood swings and depression.. now different bf, the only this the same is the depo....... Do you see a connection? Need advice....VERYSICK

I was on the shot for 2 years (1998) after my son was born. I had my last shot in Feb 2001. I decided not to get my next shot because we were going to start trying again. My doc warned me that it could take a little while because different people absorb the drug different. If your body does not use all of the current shot, it just stock piles it when you go in for your next one. I too experienced weight gain, loss of sex drive and moodiness. I also did not get pregnant again until July 2002. I was having periods in the September after I was off the shot, but they were not regular when I use to be very regular. After the birth of my daughter, I decided not to go back on the shot. I knew I was not going to wait another 4 years for another baby and wanted to feel more in control of my body and weight (the weight came right off when I got off the shot). It was very frustrating and would only recommend this for long term use.
