» mrostan1982 - Vaginal itching/soreness

I am wondering if any ladies are experiencing problems like I am. I've been using ortho evra (patch) for 18 months and occasionlly, I get severe vaginal itching and soreness. I dont think it is a yeast infection because I have no discharge. I've looked all over the internet for answers, but I can't find any to answer my question. Is is possible that the patch has messed up my hormones causing itching? (It gets very uncomfortable around week 3 then usually disappears during my period. This problem has also made intercourse painful. Any advice or similar symptoms would be appreciated. I'd really like to know I'm not the only woman with this problem.

oh my gosh, I am happy to have seen your post! I feel like I have the same problem. I've been on the patch for a year and it seems like every other month, I get what feels like a yeast infection. It gets itchy and hurts/burns during sex. And is often around week 2 or 3 of th patch. I've been using over the counter stuff but it just comes back again. I'm starting to think that this has to do with the patch, like it's making my hormones out of balance and prone to yeast or similar symptoms. But now that I see your post, I think i better see my doctor and find out what's going on. I guess I just have little faith in doctors cause years ago, when I was on the pill and kept getting yeast infections, they said, it's better to get yeast then to get pregnant. when I think about it, that's incredibly stupid. But sorry i don't have any advice, but I hope that my experience helps. I feel better knowing i"m not alone!

Hello this might seem weird but i'm a guy with concerns that my girlfriend has experianced the same symptoms as you all have. Yeast infection everytime we have sex which I think coincides with the thrid week timing in the other post. And we always use a condom. Pain during sex and some bleading afterward with stinging and she blamed it all on me at first saying i was too big, then she became abstanate. This hurt and confused me so I did some reasearch and found this post. I love her and I love being with her sexualy, I wont leave her but it has put a strain on us both. You two are not alone and if there are three there are bound to be more but what is the cause? any insight would be greatly apreciated. Thanks

I was very happy to find your post, i too had similar problems. I was on ortho evra for over 2 years and I had been having this soreness and pain during sex. I went to the doctor and they immediately thought herpes but I had never been with anyone but my husband and he had never been with anyone else either. So i knew it couldn't be that. So I did a lot of research on my own and was alarmed about the ortha evra deaths to women due to the extremely high levels of estrogen. From what i understand the patch contains the same amount of estrogen as a pill but it gets absorbded directly into blood stream and the pill gets dilluted a bit since it goes through your stomach. So that alone made me switch to ortho tri cyclin lo. After a few months I noticed my soreness was starting to go away. And a few months later it is no completely gone. I have come to the conclusion that it is due to the estrogen it lets you absorb and too much estrogen can cause chronic yeast infections. I hope this helps!
