Shane,

My canary and lovebird are both stressed because they want to be first birds too! Seriously, a canary is a beautiful first bird, and if you can get a male, the song is wonderful. All he requires besides those that you listed is a daily bath and he is happy.

Like the finches he likes to fling seeds, but a seed catcher takes care of most of it.

We bought ours for $60 from a breeder guaranteed to sing. Although he was an older bird (2 years) we have had nothing but pleasure.

And yes we have 2 cockatiels and a budgie (lost mate 2 weeks ago at age 7.

Female cockatiels are less nippy by the way.
