National Origin
This archived discussion is "read only".
» jdigiovanni - Rudolph Virchow You pose an interesting question. My family has lived in the United States for many generations, but when asked what nationality I am, I say English. When asked what country I'm from, I say the United States.I included that Pomerania and Upper Silesia are now part of Poland to provide geographical reference. I believe Virchow had personal opinions about how the government treated its citizens and he actively pursued reforms. Some of his opinions were based on what he perceived as his own national origins. Historically, as well as today, many scientists move to a different country to pursue their education or their research. Many of them retains ties (emotional, financial, familial) with their country of origin. National origin may not impact research, but it may impact the person. -- posted by jdigiovanni
