Maureen,

Port Rupert sounds like a terrific place to visit. Your article is full of great information. Mom and my niece just came back from BC and they had a great time. The took the train tour through the Rockies and I'm trying to talk Mom into writing a guest article for my Canadian Travel topic. They visited Port Rupert on their trip and thought it was wonderful.

Thanks for sharing this beautiful place with us.

Did your Mom and niece take the Transcontinental train with VIA Rail or did they take a chartered tour with Rocky Mountaineer? The nice thing about the train trips is that you are never bothered by the weather. The mountain roads can get treacherous in the winter, but the train keeps on plodding through.

Your Mom will have lots of stories to tell and please encourage her to write a Guest Article. It's nice to have the first-hand experience rather than sifting through the tourist promotion sites.

Thank you for your compliments, Mary. smile

My husband and I drove from Anchorage, Alaska to Niagara Falls, over 28 days in 2001. Prince Rupert was one of our favorite places! Because the BC Inside Passage ferry runs every other day, we had two days in Prince Rupert - enough time to do laundry, get haircuts, buy supplies...and play golf! (We tried to play golf as often as possible - and have a collection of golf balls to prove it!)

I particularly enjoyed the shopping and now have a collection of native artists' artwork framed on our walls.

The ferry through the Inside Passage remains the highlight of our trip. We saw whales, eagles, and the most beautiful scenery of the trip. If ever we get back to British Columbia, we will definitely take this ferry ride again.

Thanks for bringing me back to some wonderful memories, Mo. I'm forwarding the article to my husband - he'll love it!

Barb, thank you very much for your comments. Even taking the Inside Passage ferry is a wonderful trip in itself. It's nice to hear from people who have been there. smile

The native art is awesome, isn't it?

I'm glad I could revive a pleasant memory for you and your husband. smile

» WildCityWoman57 - Hi Maureen

Lovely article here.

I will soon be visiting B. C. to see my daughter and granddaughters who are living in Ashcroft, B. C.

I plan to come on a Railway pass so I hope to move around the province a bit.

I'm presently working on Alaska, as you will see from the column I've recently started here.

Hope you'll pop in.

Maureen,

Mom and my niece took the Transcontinental with VIA Rail. They loved it. They had lovely weather. It is a trip that my mother has always wanted to take. I'm glad that she was able to go.

She's told some great stories and I'm still trying to get her to write that guest article. She fell on the trip and her arm has been bothering her ever since. It was a previous injury and is healing slowly. It would be nice to have the first hand experience.
