» Paym Bergson - Hollywood of the north

Well written, Maureen. Yep, do the same thing here in Toronto - play 'name that location'. However, there is a growing movement to quell the US filming as more and more the US are NOT hiring the local talent and making excuses to bring in their own crews (I'm talking technical talent -lighting, etc and I'm not talking head honchos). I would have thought this was also happening in BC.
Keep up the great work!

Thanks for the compliment, Paym. Maybe Canada is starting to charge too much money for using our technical staff. Greed can do that.

My source of information was the BC Film Commission site so I'm sure they are not going to admit a decline in hiring local people.

It's amazing what the movie people can do with a site. A dingy old warehouse can become a fancy restaurant. The fine detail is also startling. If they are filming a scene in a residential area, they cover all the Canada Post mailboxes with US Mail if the movie is purporting to be in the US. When they filmed "Mission to Mars", they sprayed a limestone quarry with red paint (washable) to create a Martian landscape.

The movie scouts do use a lot of imagination!

Hi Jim. Thank you for your kind words about my new topic. I'm very pleased to share this beautiful province with the world. If you have any pictures of BC to share, I'd love to feature them. Do you still have that one with the goat on the roof?

BC is almost as beautiful as Liechtenstein. smile

Hi Maureen, I was checking out your course on SU and then found this article. You are doing a great job with your topic and your course sounds exciting. I'm sure your students will feel as if they are walking with you.

Victoria is one of my favorite places to vacation. My best friend is there and I try to visit every summer. Doesn't look I'll make it this year, though. I always take lots of pictures. She used to live in Victoria, but now lives in Sooke with her elderly parents. Sooke, I could not believe how beautiful it was. I love the long walks in the woods. I've made quite a few friends in my trips. The locals are a very kind and welcoming bunch. Keep up the good work!

Hi Barbe:

I hope I'm able to protray this awesome part of the world in print. Although I only live across the Strait on the Vancouver side, I find the Island a different world. It's hard to describe but the pace of living is more relaxed and the proximity to the water, plus less crowded beaches are only a few of things I truly appreciate.

I'm sorry you can't make your annual visit. I imagine both you and your friend are disappointed. Maybe next year!

Thank you for your kind words and encouragement. smile
