» Red - great article...

Andrea,

I agree with Jerri. You've certainly covered all the basis. I just HAVE to get to BC again one of these days.

Yes, cherries are in season now. I hope yours is a bit less expensive than ours. A heavy frost in May killed many of the blossoms. A 6qt basket of Bings (black cherries) is selling for $20. Expensive but nice for a special treat.

Thanks for providing us with such a great article. I always enjoy my visits to your topic.

Wow, Mary, that IS expensive for Bing cherries! But I love them, too, and have enjoyed them several times in June.

Andrea, the article is great, as usual. I always enjoy my visits here. I hope to get to BC one day! Hope you are doing well. Take care! Renie

Hi Jerri,
Glad you wanted to visit the Garlic Site. I thought that was kind of neat myself, being a garlic lover! What I love about doing the research for some of these articles is the cool little sites I find that I don't expect!

Take care!

Hi Mary,

Our cherries aren't as expensive as yours but they are pretty high proced even for here. Oh, speaking of cherries - yesterday, on the way back from Nelson, we stopped to watch a bear up a cherry tree in an orchard next to the road. She had two cubs with her. She was up that tree and shaking it and just pigging right out. The owner of the tree can't have been too impressed as she did a great job of ripping the branches but it was just awesome to watch! She couldn't give two hoots about us, she was too busy eating!

The cubs were so sweet!

Take care!

Hi Renie,

Glad you enjoyed the article! Yesterday I got to travel down to the other end of the Kootenay Lake. It was a gorgeous day and the scenery was out of this world. I sure hope that you do get to come up here one of these days!

Take care!

Andrea,

What an awesome experience it must have been watching that bear and her cubs eat the cherries. I would have loved to have seen it. Was she a black bear? Would be interested to know.

Thanks so much for sharing this experience with me. I hope you continue to see these fantastic sights and share them with me. As you know, I love nature.

» Travelsleuth - Garlic Capitals of the World

I was interested to read of Keremeo's claim to fame as a great garlic center. Gilroy near San Jose in California lays claim to being recognised as the World's garlic capital, though others insist that it is the World's prune capital. I don't know about the prunes but they do have a Garlic Festival there. Here on the Isle of Wight we like to dispute Gilroy's claim to garlic grandeur, pointing to our own annual Garlic Festival each August and reminding Gilroy that we actually sell garlic to the French, which is a rare feat, and more than Gilroy can aspire to. If Keremeos can also come up with a Garlic Festival perhaps we can finally put paid to Gilroy's presumptuous claim. We on Wight are happy to leave them with their self-styled title of Prune Capital of the World since few of us need to eat them for breakfast, though we do offer them in our guesthouses to the pasty-faced visitors from the mainland.
