Candle care question

Just a quick question:

I've recently discovered the joy of candles, much to my hubby's dismay, but I'm not sure how to take care of them.

Specifically with my little round ones in a glass jar. I would like for them to burn evenly down but I end up with a narrow well leaving very little wick and lots of candle left on the sides. What can I do to prevent this from happening? Is there anyway I can fix these candles once this does happen?
