In response to message posted by franked:

I'd say the most challenging part of my job is teaching new users how to use proprietary software. Although programs designed for use in a Windows or UNIX environments use standard conventions, some users are not familiar with these conventions. This hurdle is the first one to be conquered before the candidate is truly ready to learn the specifics of the systems I use.

Even though computers and machinery have evolved, people do not evolve and learn until it becomes a requirement to maintain employment. This is not always the case, and I have found some who far exceeded the requirements of the technology being used. In these cases, I have enjoyed many hours of stimulating conversation.

What has prompted you to bring up this question? Are you struggling with a particular project or problem?
