When I was a kid on the fringes of Los Angeles, screech owls used to scare me to shivers. The sounded like souls trying to come back from the dead.

Henry: The Screech Owl sounds just like my husband's best friend Tod when he laughs. We call the little screetch, The Tod Owl.

If I remember correctly, the screech owls we heard would have a clucking or ticking between the screeches. One screech for about eight ticks. I'm not sure whether the screech or the ticks bothered me more.
