» Joy Butler - Eggs and Nests

A few years ago some cardinals built a nest in one of my hedges and I enjoyed watching the babies grow, from my deck, however, I don't know that I would want to do that often because they seem so fragile and I don't care to witness any sad endings. I did enjoy your article and pictures though.

Thanks, Joy. I've never had the pleasure of monitoring a Cardinal nest. They always seem to locate their nests somewhere other than my vantage point!

If there were too many sad endings, I wouldn't be able to maintain my boxes. smile It's an indescribable feeling when I realize the nest that was full of noisy, begging babies is suddenly empty. Then, in a few days, I begin to hear those noisy babies harrassing their parents for food from the trees. The fledgling dees from this spring are all still alive and well. I saw (and heard!) all five of them this afternoon while out back. They are so adorable!

Thanks for dropping by!
