» Blacknarwhal - Centauri Republic I'm not terribly well versed on Babylon Five, I know that much...but I seem to remember there being a Centauri Emperor. How can a REPUBLIC have an EMPEROR?-- posted by Blacknarwhal » Losthiriel - Re: Centauri Republic In response to message posted by Blacknarwhal:You're right Centauriri Prime does have an Emperor, and it's not hereditary. I looked up Republic in the dictionary - here's some definitions: 1) a state in which the supreme power rests in the body of citizens entitled to vote and is exercised by representatives chosen directly or indirectly by them 2) a state in which the head of government is not a monarch or other hereditary head of state. Okay, so this partially works. Without being insJMS'sMS's head, I can only guess at some of this - but remember Centauriauri themselves had a lot of feudal-type behaviors. They dueled to settle arguments; the houses jostled for power and position and for favor in the court with the Emperor. I'm going to do a little more research on this and see if there is a reason the word "Republic" was chosen. Thanks for asking! -- posted by Losthiriel
