» RoxianneM - Winterizing Know anything about frozen car doors? The doors on my station wagon keep freezing shut, and I really hate having to climb in through the tailgate! Guess it's a good thing I don't have a sedan ... but I'd like any ideas you might have on how to keep the doors from sticking. I've tried pouring boiling water over them (fine if I happen to be at home when they freeze), but that can actually make them freeze shut again, this time while I'm inside.-- posted by RoxianneM » Car - Re: Winterizing In response to message posted by RoxianneM:Hi Roxianne, I don't know much but it does sound like a bad idea (with the refreeze) to keep using hot water. Have you tried those de-Ice things? They come in these little metal canisters that look almost like mace cans. You pump a couple drops of that into the lock and it's suppose to unfreeze it. Maybe that might help? I know I picked mine up at Sears Auto this year... don't know where you might find one locally. -- posted by Car » Auto_Princess - Re: Winterizing Sorry for the delay in replying, but I was frozen inside my Honda. (Just kidding!!)I wouldn't recommend pouring boiling water on your doors as the temperature change is just too great. You could damage the door itself or even crack the window if there is a scratch or chip in it. I use a window de-icer and spray it along the door jamb until the door releases. Many of those products have alcohol in them which will help prevent re-freezing. Using water, on your doors or your windows, will just make a bad problem worse when it eventually refreezes. And follow Car's suggestion for the lock de-icer. Those come in fairly small cans which will fit in your purse. Hope this helps!!! -- posted by Auto_Princess » jimbaxter47 - Re: Winterizing In response to message posted by RoxianneM:Try WD-40. It should be good for some time before having to repeat -- posted by jimbaxter47
