Hi there - Just wanted to voice my opinion on aspergers vs. autism. I have a 3 yr old son that was just diagnosed with autism and from what our therapists and doctors say - he is high functioning autistic not aspergers. He does have language ability but it's due to 2 yrs of speech. he learned sign lang. at 14 months so we could try to communicate w/him. I have done much research on these disorders and most of them agree that aspergers is a form of autism. just autism w/speech. many autistic children do not have significant cognitive delays. you can agree or disagree with me, just wanted to voice my opinion. my son didn't speak - he signed. thankfully he now talks - not always is he understood but we try. He still has auditory processing problems and no speech when he is upset, overtired, overstimulated, angry -then we get meltdowns with no ability to talk.
anyway that is all i have to say about that.
