» Tom - Move OVER........ Easier said than done. In Winston Cup racing, a driver will fight tooth and nail to stay on the lead lap. His insistance, and the battle that ensues, has been known to provide a startling ourcome to a race. Normally, after a few laps, if it is apparent that the leader has a much faster car, the culprit will move over. What I always find amusing, is that if the leader didn't have a much faster car, why would he be lapping the guy in the first place!-- posted by Tom

At least in Winston Cup Racing everybody from the drivers and spotters to all the fans knows that this battle to stay on the lead lap will happen and drive accordingly. Working the traffic is an integral part of the event, especially on the fantastic one mile ovals. The problem in Canberra was that everybody wasn't driving to the new rule. Canberra is very narrow, even for a street circuit, making the problem worse. -- posted by Philip Northeast
