» Jo Murphy - Fantastic List of Resources

It will give me heaps to do checking out all of the resources.
As a teacher I would have always wanted to be able to spend more time with the kids individually. It must be so good to be in control.
I would love to have the resources and the time to be able to get the kids really organised online. Journal, online gallery (for example share their garden projects with their pen friends world wide), The computer is such a compact little thing isn't it. Kids can have graphs so that they can track their performance, run their own website to present their own work.

Education just ain't what it used to be!!
I'll have a good read,
Jo

Hi again Jo!

One-to-one contact with our kids is one of the major advantages of home based learning, in my opinion. I wouldn't say that "control" is the issue, rather CHOICE.

I haven't looked into using the computer or Internet much for education so far - our children are younger. They have educational CD ROMs, and look at some web sites I show them, or things I print for them - but I imagine there's a whole realm for us to explore together. Thanks for your ideas...

» Jo Murphy - Poor choice of words

In response to message posted by gemsmama:

Hmmm! Control was a poor choice of words.
I guess what I meant was that I would love to be able to work with kids in small numbers so that each one's needs can be attended to as they occur.
The word control comes in for teachers because in a funny way that is what you end up doing. Controlling the situation, the behaviour, ...directing the traffic so's to speak or there would be chaos.
It would be a quantum leap for some teachers to move from control to CHOICE. Especially if you were trying to give the choice to the students.
I'm fascinated.
We are in a Renaissence really aren't we?

Dear Jo,

Yes, we are in a time where there are more eduational choices than ever - even in the realm of home based learning there are a plethoria of options...

A lot of teachers choose to home educate their own children, and find it very hard at times to get the "school" mentality out of their approach. The same can be said for those of us who spent all our own years of education in the "system".

Thanks again for sharing.

» Willow4 - Great Article

Belinda this is a great article. All of those links are a valuable resource for those homeschooling in Australia. I am going to check some of the out too even though I'm in the States.

Thanks,
