» Blondbabe - MOVIE - PUBERTY BLUES

I saw this movie when it was first released here in Australia in the summer of 1982.

Boy, what an impact this movie had on me.

Firstly, I loved the characters talked, very much like me and my friends, token "australiana" at its very best.

Secondly, I could identify with the characters, as I too was going through my very own version of Puberty Blues, as I was only 13 when this movie was released.

A feminist movie? I don't think so, this move reflected very well what was happening in the school yards across Australia at the time. Art reflecting life - definitely, right down from the teasing of the scrawny, pale-faced girl, to the problems one has when trying to have sex in the back of a panel van with a guy who is, rather large!

This movie changed my life, I was in recovery from anorexia when I saw it and after viewing this movie with my sister, I decided that sex must be fun, and I made it my ultimate goal to lose my virginity in the back of a car, with a surfie guy, whilst stoned on marijuana!!

Teenage parties, rebellion against parental control, outrageously sexist guys and the feeling that after 2 years of this lifestyle something better must occur are all the ingredients which make this movie a timeless Australian classic.

Also, I was now able to put forward a very valid reason to my parents to stop attending church youth group, as does the main character.

It's not high art, but it's a bloody good movie!!

And by the way, my dream did come true, about 2 years after seeing this movie!!

I was twelve when I saw Puberty Blues here in NC, USA. It also impacted me greatly. I have never forgotten the film and wish I could see it again - what a blast from the past!! My favorite line in the movie was at the end when one of the lead girls said "I think we've been dropped", or something like that. Their accects were just narley!!
