This archived discussion is "read only". » Craig93 - Message G'day FrancYour usual tirade against religion. How about doing something more creative and show us a viable alternative to what could have happened, why and based on your reasoning and on the foundation of your morality, doing so from a positive point of view, without the need of tearing others apart. I'm not any the more clearer about what Atheism is all about, apart from tearing others down. Now granted in the USA there is that subject of freedom of speech and i wonder if it might the the atheists agender to curb freedom of speech from those they might disagree with? craig -- posted by Craig93 » Franc28 - Re: Message In response to Message posted by Craig93:You seem to be slightly confused. This is not *my* tirade this time. And this is the atheist column, not the alternatives column. I had a Rational Spirituality column before, but that interested no one. People want to read religion-bashing, not alternatives. Nothing I can do about *that*. -- posted by Franc28 » EvilChihuahua - Re: Re: Message In response to Re: Message posted by Franc28:I would have to agree with Craig here. You could have taken a different approach to your latest article. There are countless ways you can make a point or statement without ridiculing others. Some people may want religion-bashing, but any mature, intelligent individual with half a mind would want to see an alternative. No, I'm not saying that you're an immature, unintelligent individual, but I think you should take a break from catering for them. The motto for this site is "Real people helping real people" (something I've had to remind many people before). Religion-bashing helps no one, not even those who want religion-bashing. All it does is fuel anger and hatred, which, as I've seen from life experiences, just eats away at your insides (emotionally), and can lead to devastating emotional problems. I've been in a mental hospital 3 times because of this, and I've met others who have suffered likewise. A great deal of my problems came from religion-bashing. I hated Christianity with a passion, because of what other people told me about how Christians hated us Pagans. Maybe I shouldn't have listened to only one side of the story. Today, I've gotten over that hatred, and while I'm not religious, I still respect other religions (except Satanism, but some Satanists claim it's not a religion anyway). Now, can I ask some questions? 1. Why do you think no one was interested in Rational Spirituality? I was. While I never posted anything, I did enjoy reading the articles and posts. 2. Can I ask a personal question? What made you give up your Christian faith? Oh well, see ya. -- posted by EvilChihuahua » Craig93 - Re: Re: Message In response to Re: Message posted by Franc28:G'day Franc. I'm sorry I did not read the author of the article, I made a mistake - my post is addressed to Joseph. I would like to read more about what it is Athiests do believe, why they believe it, what is the basis of their belief or philosophy etc etc. Is atheism all about tearing down others beliefs without actually hold any beliefs apart from every one else is wrong? craig -- posted by Craig93 » Pinky102 - What Atheists Believe In response to Re: Re: Message posted by Craig93:I think, pretty much, they believe what they see, hear and read from a great majority of what is expressed by those who profess Christianity is a lot of hooey. I think they see through what they see as hypocracy and into so much of what appears to them to be emptiness that masquerades as zeal. And, I think they believe it's a sick way to make a living. It's kinda difficult to try to act like they haven't got a point, isn't it? It would be good to dialog with them. But, my experience is that they are as difficult to engage them in dialog as it is to engage some of the religious traditionalists I run into. Haven't you noticed how they always want to prove they're right and you're wrong? -- posted by Pinky102 » hawknut - The Article First, I don't know why the attack on Franc, since he didn't write the article.Second, I think the article reflects ideas and concerns that are shared and expressed by many people, not just atheists. To live, to die, to control one's own body and future... these are all issues that we all struggle with - if not today, then perhaps tomorrow. This 'us' versus 'them' is not conducive to discovering answers ... but I guess it does feed controversy and many thrive on drama. Personally, I think no outsiders belong in my private affairs - no church, politician, media, protestor, etc. I insured this by drafting Living Will and Power of Attorney documents which express ~my~ wishes - no one else's. I suggest everyone do the same ~before~ you find yourself unable to. -- posted by hawknut » _Boanerges_ - Confusion? Or? The Claim:"The religious right, or who I prefer to call the "religious wrong," are keen at telling everyone God's opinion on every subject from euthanasia to abortion, from God's contempt for pleasure of any kind to his implied approval of polyester pants. God has so many liaisons on Earth informing mankind of his stances that he has apparently been overwhelmed with confusion in his appointments, as a great deal of these representatives are adept at giving us conflicting reports of his passions and displeasures." But then he says: Hmmm... seems like Atheists are keen at telling everyone God's opinion! How would they(he) know 'she could not have been healed' or she was not even aware' or 'her mind was dead' or...or....or... (shaking my head at the obvious contradiction) -- posted by _Boanerges_ » hawknut - Re: IFOMCAROTFLMAO* In response to IFOMCAROTFLMAO* posted by Pinky102: woo hoo woo hoo ah ha ha ha woo hoo woo hoo!! hehmmm.
