I always wanted to study Quantum Mechanics but time and money constraints got in the way. Oh well. The QM understood by my professors at Cal and USC and the QM of today must be totally different looking siblings.

Not that much different, rather it has extended in scope and depth. Schroedinger equations hold at the basis.
