» Uberkitch - The Mystery of Violet

In your article you explain that the red cones are sensitive at the shortest visible wavelengths, and that this explains why violet appears to us to be a mixture of red and blue light, even though these two colors are at the opposite ends of the spectrum.

This theory is very tidy, but what is the evidence for it? I used to believe in it myself, but then I went looking for data to confirm it. The CVRL site that you linked to provides no confirmation of it that I can find.

The graphs and data lists that I looked at there show no sign of a "blue leak." In fact, the data are incomplete, not showing any indication at all of how red cones behave in the violet range.

Has anyone out there solved the Mystery of Violet?
