» Bellowbelle - Lavender oil to massage dogs
I did see a special report on TV once, though, about a place that did pet therapy. They used lavender oil (probably mixed with a carrier or something) in doggy massage! They said that the dogs had a good reaction to it.I have also heard of lavender and other oils -- almond, I think -- used to clean a dog's ears. In small amounts, I'm sure.
Me, I have parakeets, as well as dogs. I made a small herbal pillow with a mix of lavender and pine herbs, that I keep on a small rack on top of the cage (it's safely away from the birds' reach). I fluff it when I feed them. I use this instead of those metal-can bird cage protectors that are bought and then discarded. So far, after over a year, my birds seem healthy and have no bad bug problem!

In response to message posted by Bellowbelle:As mentioned in the article, the way in which you are using essential oils with your pets is deemed pretty safe and is of course much better campared to chemical treatments. They are also external uses of Aromatherapy... the true danger comes, according to studies, from improper ingestion of essential oils as noted in the article.

In response to message posted by pixie1980:I have 5 cats and when feline flu (more like a cold really) invaded my house it WAS NOT a pretty thing! Five cats sneezing and dripping all over the place and it's not like you can get them to blow their noses!!
I put certain decongestant oils in a burner and kept it going and it really helped their sniffles!
